It is the most fundamental question about life itself – “When does life begin?” And though some offer myriad arguments based upon political, ideological, or emotional grounds, the answer is actually quite simple, obvious, and indisputable – life begins at conception. The contrapuntal question, for those who oppose that notion is, “If not then, when?”

The Freedom of Choice Act (H.R. 1964/S. 1173) was a bill in the 110th United States Congress which "declares that it is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child; terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability; or terminate a pregnancy after viability when necessary to protect her life or her health."It prohibits a federal, state, or local governmental entity from denying or interfering with a woman's right to exercise such choices; or discriminating against the exercise of those rights in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information. It also authorizes an individual aggrieved by a violation of this Act to obtain appropriate relief, including relief against a governmental entity, in a civil action.
Spenser Price doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to marching lock step to the right wing ideology. The fact is that a man doesn’t have the right to determine the fate of a woman’s body. When it comes to a woman’s pregnancy it is only her choice and if he is the father it is his responsibility and the responsibility only.

Did you forget the words "to protect her life or health?" If that is the case, I can agree. Sadly, most abortions are done because these children would be an inconvenience. A large part of these unwanted pregnancies occur when the women are careless or refuse to protect themselves. That is the time, in my opinion, that they loose their rights and the right to life goes to the child.

Don't you just love it when Anonymous says, "most unwanted pregnancies happen when women are careless." I thought just earthworms fall under the category of parthenogenesis. Condoms....ever heard of those?

It is a far greater wrong to bring an unwanted child into the world than it is to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. It is odd that the wackos who oppose abortion do not oppose other life altering procedures.
If you belive that life in its natural state should not be altered then you must stay away from the medics when you are ill. It's odd how religion adjusts itself to persecute. There's alway the witch hunt du jour.

Enoc- I'm with you on this one.
And I won't debate this topic with anyone since my mind cannot be changed.
I'm merely an average person who has a lifelong love of reading. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, by a long shot.
Although I can understand your big words in this piece, Mr. Price, it takes too long to process your message.
I love your essays when you write from the heart, Mr. Price. Your words sing when you do.
This essay is coming from your brain, I think.
Please continue to write from the heart, I feel your strength then.
I respect your right to express your opinion.

It is exactly that simple. That is the problem. No thought is required, no love is required, no morals are required, no planning is required, nothing is required except a sperm and an egg. I didn't say a good, happy or successful life begins. I said life begins. What part of that do you not agree with?

If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Life begins at conception. Taking that life is murder regardless of what the law says. If a child is not wanted then the two people engaging in the deed should have been more cautious. A romp in the hay followed by the taking of a life will be answered to. Those people allowing it, taking part in it, or doing the abortion are just as guilty as the person letting it get done. And the stupid ones always want to make excuses to try and justify it.

Just curious...a wife gets pregnant and decides she wants an abortion...the husband wants the baby....What is legal in this case?

Look Shelia…..He doesn’t have a case. I’ve been married for 35 years and raised daughters. I don’t like the fact that I have no say if my wife had chosen to abort but I guess that’s what you get for having a Y chromosome. Divorce would have been my only recourse. It’s interesting to know that she would have had to sign a waver if I chose to have a vasectomy. Ouch! Knock! Knock! Who’s there……. Nobody
