BUS ROUTES: Students head back to school

Soon, students will have to be up early and prepared to catch the bus to school. The start of school means keeping up with new supplies, getting to the right classrooms and catching the right bus.

08-23 bus driver needs to be fired, she is not good with little kids.

How many student ride the bus? How much does it cost to transport one student to and from school each day? Can any student ride or does the student have to show that he / she has no other way to get to school. IE: Parents do not have car or license, work schedule, etc.
Is there a bus fee? If not, why not? Is a dollar per ride too much to ask for a rider to pay? We have to stop the run-a-way out of control spending because the rich folks like me "aint gona take it much longer" and we are going to stop funding this system. When the hard working, rich stop funding the system it will stop!

Rich and Poor people that pay taxes fund this system, The State of Ga decides where your tax money goes, not you.
For a "Rich person" you sure do sound uneducated.

You are an idiot. Taxes pay for this the sames as they did when you were growing up (I'm guessing that you did) and our children need an education. Transportation is provided for many reasons!

I bet you rode the school bus back in the day so why you worried about the kids riding buses now. People like you make me sick because let me tell you, I am a working mother of 2, I have my own car that I bought and I paid for and guess what???? my son rides the bus to and from school because he likes to ride the bus with his friends. Oh not to mention the fact that I work and pay freaking taxes in this county too.

I did not ride the bus and my kids do not ride the bus. I take them and pick them up or arrange for them to be taken and picked up. Maybe the school system could pay me what it cost for a student to ride the bus. I do not mind havig a bus system or even helping cover the cost with my tax money, I just want to see everyone pay their fair share. It is the sorry free loaders I have a problem with. Is it too much to ask for the users to pay a small fee to help off set the cost?

Yes, I am a tax payer and a struggling parent, it would be hard to come up with bus fair. Taxes taken out of my paycheck and when I buy something at the store is already enough.

ok #5: How about if the county school system reduced the amount of taxes it collects from you and others and charged a user fee. Could you afford it then? How much do YOU pay in property taxes versus what you get? IE: How many children in the school SYSTEM and how many ride the bus?
Now put yourself in the shoes of a tax payer that does not have a child in the school SYSTEM that rides the bus. Should they have to "chip in" and pay for your child to ride the bus? What "IF" someone received money from the county each month to cover their cost for taking their child to school? IE: $.55 per mile. I bet folks would raise hell if I got paid to drive my child to school each day. What is the difference? You save money buy having the county pick yours up, should I not get paid the cost to take mine?

Look, I don't know who you are, but I think you have issues. I have 2 kids that are school age, I pay property tax and all other taxes! This is the first year (in 6 years my kids have been in school) that I am putting my kids on the bus. Why? Because my household income has lowered, and I have NEVER had bad feelings about paying my taxes so kids can ride the bus. Come on, I have "chipped in" since I was 16. Some people just can't afford it and have to cut back. If I didn't pay any tax, yes I could then see paying for my children's education and their ride. I guess if you had to see what it was like to "struggle" maybe then you would not complain as much.

Why don't repay those who had no children but funded you when you rode a bus as a child. Don't forget to include the interest.

ok, i agree. what i really want to point out is that at our current way of doing business we will go bust. if we do not look at other means than just tax tax tax, and start with a combination of tax and user fees then we will all suffer one day. i do not mind paying taxes for services and i do not mind having a tax supported bus system. i do mind abuse of services especially by those who pay little if any taxes for the service. the schools should reduce the ridership down to the actual ones who need a ride to school (ie: working parents like yourself) and have a more uniform pick up / drop off local and charge a small fee $1 or $2 bucks or a base fee for the year. if folks like you are already paying enough in taxes (got to define enough) then you get a voucher to ride. those who do not pay taxes do not get a voucher and pay to use.

KEEP THINKING.
THAT IS WHAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE TO GET THE MESS FIXED.

Well, good gosh, why is the school bus such a huge issue?
What about those SUVs we have all seen sitting with the windows closed, airconditioner blasting, inching forward to pick up the kids? What about the poisons being poured into the atmosphere from those?
And let's remember this- whether we want to face it or not, there are some kids out there whose parent(s) don't care enough to get out of bed and make sure the child has a meal before (s)he leaves for school, much less make sure the child gets there. For some children, perhaps school is the only safe haven the child has in the day.
If my tax dollars can pay for generations to stay on welfare and foodstamps, and for the same low-life scum to wind thru the court system time and again only to wind up back out on the street, where he might target my home next, then by golly, my tax dollars can pay for a child to get a ride to school.
