With the sun high overhead and a home stadium full the Lamar County High School Trojan football team kicked off their 2009 season against Rutland.

The game began with a patriotic and exhilarating parachute exhibition by Fort Benning's official parachute demonstration team - the Silver Wings.

The game, the players, the entertainment, the band, the cheerleaders ALL were amazing. However the amount of small middle school children that were running around and trying to start fights, throwing stuff from the top bleachers, and using language that I am still afraid to use around my parents is a complete disgrace. I hope this is fixed so that the new stadium can be enjoyed. Parents also need to take a little more responsibility and not use the stadium and the workers (most of the time police however) as their babysitters. Dr.Truby I know you read these messages. Please think of something to control these children.

I second that! The people need to sit down and stop standing where they're not supposed to be. You can barely get through all those crowds of folks and Coach Scan had to keep asking people to get up out of the handicapped seats! This needs to be fixed. Those of us who actually come to watch the game can't enjoy it for all of the mess going on behind us. It makes you not even want to come! Please, please LC higher ups....FIX IT!

I too am tired of worrying if a bottle or rock or anything all those hoodlum kids are flinging around behind us. I have small children I like to bring to the game to enjoy, but cant without all the commotion. The first time my kid gets hit with something, I may catch a charge, but I am going to snatch one of those panty waste down!

Why don't the parents of the unruly kids "fix it?" The school system staff at the games are mostly there as spectators and parents just like you and me. It is crazy to think that a school employee should have to extend their work day to patrol unruly kids at a football game in order to watch their own child play or cheer.

At the spring game, there were plenty of sheriff's deputies and police officers in attendance to keep people either moving along or seated. I saw very few law enforcement personell at last night's scrimmage. I know one of Barnesville's police officers passed away this week and many of the cops were at the funeral home but is that worth the safety at the game?

Come on have some respect for the deceased officer. The question you should be asking is where are the parents of the disrespectful children? We wouldn't need so many police officers if parents would come to the games and monitor their children.

Maybe the game should have been cancelled in honor of the fallen officer, after all he did serve the people and this was just a scrimmage game. The problem was not enough officers but it was parents not controlling their children. I do not feel it should be the responsibilty of the school officials or law inforcement to babysit.

I just want to say that I enjoy coming and watching the LC Trojans play. I agree there is too much standing and hanging around. I want to comment on the price to get into the game. I'm ok with paying $7.00 for adults, but I disagree with having to pay that for small children. I think the $7.00 should be for adults and children 12 years and up. 12 years and under should be about $3.00. I come to watch my nephew play ball and it cost my family $42.00 to come watch because we had to pay $7.00 for my children. That is just WAY TOO MUCH for children. Please, Dr. Truby and Coach Scandrett, look into this. I DO wish to continue to come out and enjoy the game. Thank you.

$42 for you and your kids?

To pay $42 you had to have 6 people with you.

Was that 4 kids? Dang. You need more than a price cut! LOL!

Yes, there were 6 of us at the game. MY HUSBAND, MY 4 KIDS, and MYSELF. Yes, 4 kids and I am blessed to have each of them!

I agree with you on all of the kids going to the football game just to hang out. I have a 4 year old and it was ridiculous having to fight our way through the middle school kids to walk to the bathroom and then for them to run into my child on the way back. Something needs to be done about the hangout spot. I did see Officer Maggie and a sheriff's deputy trying to keep order, Thank you. Please do something to keep the kids from making it a hangout spot.
On a better note we really enjoyed the paratrooper's. That was really neat. It would have been neat to see Dr. Shipp jump, but thank you for setting that up, you are a great asset to Lamar County Schools. Thank goodness it is football season again. The team looked good and I'm always happy to see my son on the field.

What the heck people?!?!?!?!? Teach your OWN kids how to behave, stop dropping them off at school activities for someone else to baby sit. You raised these uncontrollable brats - YOU deal with them!

I think this thread just shows what the problem is in Lamar County. The schools are FULL of parents with this "somebody else needs to make my kids behave' mentality - which just makes life miserable at these public events for us parents that do actually raise our children to behave and respect authority.

FYI: My child was seated next to me for the entire scrimmage. It is the school's property, therefore the school is responsible for making sure that order is kept whether that's by asking law enforcement to clear areas or whatever. All I know is that I saw the administration walking around through the crowd and not asking the people to take a seat. Some of the deputies were under the stands joking around and laughing with the kids both last week and this week.

I am responsible for making sure that my child is doing what he needs to...not your's or the next person's. This was a school event and the school officials should have made sure order was kept.

I agree. At summers field the kids were bad but they stayed away from everyone else in their own little section off by the bleachers or up on the hill. Now that they have no where to go they have chosen those top stands and it is ridiculous. I kept having to look behind be knowing that something was either fixing to happen or afraid that stuff would be thrown at me. During half-time a large water bottle came flying off the top of the bleachers right into the middle of the crowd. There was a single deputy at the top of the bleachers but I know there was nothing he could do to handle that many unsupervised kids so its not the cops fault, dont blame it on the lack of them, thats not their job. In my opinion you should be a certain age before being allowed up there or making it to where you have to have a parent with you. LCCHS you have two weeks before the real season starts, figure out something.

It is really necessary to have the PA system that loud? I can imagine how bad it is for homes that are closer to the field.

On the other hand.... I live near the Gordon field and I missed hearing the band on Friday night. I liked going out on my porch and listening to the excitement building!

i would just like to apologize on behalf of all the middle school students.
this is ashamingg.
a disgrace.
hopefully the LCMS students are allowed to be given another chance to prove that the parents can drop them off and pick them up with a smile and hopefully there will be no more bad comments.

I do believe that it is the parents place to take care of problems such as this. Since the parents of these problem students do not want to take responsibility, I think that the officers should take them into custody at the field and call their parents to pick them up. When they are picked up, their parents should be handed a ticket for disturbing the peace. It is a shame that some students can not gather together and act civil. It puts in danger the freedom of the students that can go into a public venue and have fun but also be respectful.

I was at the graduation in Thomaston and the police were handing out tickets and asking people to leave for the same reasons.

I am a LCMS parent and understand both sides of the problem. The kids want to be able to come to the game and enjoy hanging out with their friends and others want to be able to watch the game in peace. At the old field the kids had an area to hang out but with the new field they are told they have to remain seated...how bout give them their own section if they have to remain in their seats? or allow them to walk around under the stands like they walked behind the stands at the old field. there has to be a happy medium for all parties for us all to enjoy ourselves.

There needs to be a designated middle school student section and/or high school student section. If they sit, stand, or whatever else they need to be with an adult. Period! If you think the football games are bad, try going to a high school basketball game.

As long as they pay the 7 dollar admission fee and do not hinder me and others from enjoying the game, I don't care what the kids do. If their parents want to spend seven bucks for the kids to loiter around, so be it. Just be respectful to those of us there to actually watch the game.
