One of the most intriguing agenda items for tonight's (January 13) Lamar County commission meeting is the appointments to the Industrial Development Authority.
Current commission appointees at the end of their terms are Gene Hardwick and Bruce Akins.

I think these meetings are a bit intimidating to the average citizen. They follow Roberts Rules of Order which while antiquated, are universally accepted and understood by most academics. But it is not so easy to understand for those who are under the assumption that these public forums are open platforms for 'citizen-at-large.'
So, 7:41pm and we are flying through appointments. They are everything from County Administrator to County Chaplain to McIntosh Trail Board of Directors. Now it is obvious to me that this agenda was given out or rather made available prior to the meeting and these appointments were common knowledge. If I can kind of give a rundown of the auction sound of these appointments:
Well, I can't do it. It is something like, "We need a call to motion." "I call to motion." "We need a vote. Do we have a second?" "All in favor say aye." "Aye." And.....moving on......
Mr. Mayfield, attorney at law, was then asked how the commissioners would go about passing this cut. It seemed Matthews was dead set on cutting this second meeting a month. I am not sure why, to be honest. Two months a meeting? That just isn't that big of a deal.
I am beginning to think I know less about small town politics than I even thought.
