The Lamar County Lady Trojans opened the 2009 softball season in fine fashion outlasting AAA Mary Persons 2-1 in a pre-season scrimmage in Forsyth last Wednesday.
Lamar began the regular season over the weekend with the Spalding Invitation Tournament in Griffin where they played five games in two days. Results from the tournament were not available at press time.
Abby Walker pitched five strong innings for the win, allowing no earned runs, to lead Lamar over the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman Tamara Watts pitched a pair of scoreless innings to close out the game and get the save.
