What a great idea, Great way to fill the stadium up with all middle school students so they can have a place to hang out at. I really hope the school system will have enough staff on game night to supervise all the kids.
people get use to it, kids are not the same as the old days and the teachers are not as dedicated either. most are in it for the money and the summers off! if is a school function then ultimatly responsibility does fall back on the school system for what goes on!

I think the teachers are dedicated to the students. Did you drive by the schools on the furlough days? Many of the tecahers were at the school, working for free!
It's not the teacher's responsibility to watch your children or someone else's children at the football game. Teachers do have lives outside of the school. They have families and children of their own. However, you think they should put everything on hold to watch someone else's kids so you can watch the football game. Perhaps you should be in charge of watching those children instead. You are a citizen of Lamar County and these are Lamar County children you're talking about. So shouldn't Lamar County citizens handle this?
It's crazy to expect teachers to supervise the football games. This proves you think of teachers as babysitters instead of educators.
If I pay $7 to get in to the game then yes I expect to be able to watch it. I have been to other high school games where the pa guy tells everyone to find a seat or they will be asked to leave. Why can't it be done here? I am not putting this all on the teachers but also on school administrators. They are responsible for what happens on school property. When people sign on to be teachers or school adminstrators they should realize it is not just to get the summer off, there is a lot of extra work that goes into being a quality teacher. And yes, before you bash me I do realize our school system has a lot of great teachers, I know some of them personnaly. And buy the way I take care of my own kids when we go to the games, I don't just drop them off for someone else to babysit so I am doing my part.
HAHAHAHA! Teachers are in it for the money- You've got to be kidding. Its not the teacher's job to teach kids how to act anyway especially not at a football game. Parents need to stop shipping their kids off to public school hoping that the teachers will do all their work!
Assign a section of the stadium for the students to sit during the games. Have student tickets, with the section of the stadium that they are required to sit in, printed on the tickets. Put up signs, so that anybody with the I.Q. to read them can find their way to this section. Guidelines have to be established and enforced... Otherwise, it's business as usual. And, that means congregating for the purpose of socializing, and giving very little attention to the purpose of being there in the first place -- watching an athletic event. Both (socializing & viewing the game) can be done simultaneously, but there has to be some control of the situation.
There was just today, an article in the Macon Telegraph Editorial Pages, about how the Macon schools have gone from quality schools to undisciplined venues for students to disrupt the other students and teachers that are there for the purpose of teaching and getting an education. Where will it all stop?
Somebody, somewhere, has got to get a grip on this demise in the quality of our public school systems. We are headed for disaster, if something is not done.
Allow them to go to the restrooms and concession stands, of course... But, all of the loitering behind the stands, around the concession stand areas, & other traffic areas should be held to a very minimum.
Even at the old stadium on College Drive, you could hardly walk from the stands to the concession & restroom areas, without having to literally stop and weave your way through throngs of kids just running around and socializing. Most of them would not even move out of the way to allow an adult to pass through... 2/3 of them --maybe more-- could have cared-less that a football game was being played... They were only there for one purpose - to congregate and socialize - PERIOD!
This is an issue that needs to be addressed and controlled more efficiently. Allow them to sit in the stands and socialize, but put these other areas off limits for loitering & congregating... It can be done. There will be a lot of complaining and griping about it. But, who's running the show -- the school system, or the kids? That's the question.
I think it's a great idea!! And wish people would stop bashing the middle school kids. I've been at all the games so far and seen what has gone on. It's not just Middle school that's all over the place. And either you don't have kids or are too old to remember going to high school games but that's what the do. They got to the games to hang out and have fun. I say lets give them their own area to enjoy. Either way, Kids are kids so either bash their parents for not being their to control them or just don't go to the games.
I think it is a great idea. It would be great to offer the tickets a little more affordable, especially since there is not a lesser price for the youth. I also do not understand why so many people are complaining about the kids at the game. When you were in Middle and High School, did you sit with your parents or hang out with their friends. It it not like it is an Atlanta Falcons game with assigned seats, it's just a small town high school game! Also, how many places in the town of Barnesville is there for pre-teens and teens to go and see their friends other than school and church. What is needed is a place that they can get together and have fun. I remember the old "Rec" that was located where the old pool and golf course use to be and where Gordon's parking lot is now. It was great to go dance to the music of local bands. It had a cover charge and off duty police outside. I don't remember when the Movie theater was open but that would be nice to have also. More needs to be offered to our youth in Barnesville. The choices they have are to "hang-out" in parking lots or at the Recreation Department that is closed, ride around downtown, or worse, to get into trouble on a back road. That is not much of a choice! It is no wonder that so many do get into trouble. Many small towns still offer dances in the school gyms or other public buildings on the weekends, or a food establishment that stays open at least until 11:00 and welcomes them to hang-out, wish that could happen here. So at least don't complain about the few football games that they get to attend.
i am not saying teachers should banysit.BUT ido think they should have so many at the games to help control the kids[after all they do get paid 12 months out of the year....who gets paid for that long of vacations} The children[or most of them}are out of control at the games.parents put the kids out and leave them.its disturbing to try to watch the game with kids running WILD.when this field was built I thought running around and under the seats would not be alowed......What happened...........
You are incorrect. They get paid for 190 days (well 187 this year) They simply divide it over 12 months. Sorry, you don't own their souls the rest of the year as you implied. Watch your own kids!

Are you serious? Teachers get paid by the hour.(They get paid an hourly wage to work 8 hours a day, 190 days per year.) That is then broken up into 12 equal payments that they receive at the end of each month. Your comment that I pasted at the top of this post is very ignorant. Teachers would be willing to supervise the students at the football games for you, if they were paid to do so. Until then, forget it, watch your own children.
This is another example of people wanting the government to step in and take care of their problems. Deal with them on your own. If you don't like the way the kids act, say something to them OR go sit on the visitor's side OR stay at home.
It is not just the middle school kids standing and walking around, It is also the high school kids as well as ADULTS. Keep an eye out Friday night you will see the adults standing around, under the bleachers, in the aisles, you will also see them sitting in the handicap seats and standing around at the handicap seats. If you want to put blame somewhere, go right ahead, but be sure to give EVERYONE their own credit in the matter. It's going to happen. Stop putting it all on the middle schoolers and put it on them all. If you look closely enough, you will even see employees of the school system standing around the same areas doing the same as the middle schoolers.......talking, loitering. Find somewhere you can sit and enjoy the game. If you don't like it stay home.
Go to a private school football game if you want a civilized, respectful crowd......the stadium may not have cost 2 million, but you can at least watch a good game in a safe environment.....
So let me see if I understand this...we want the kids to buy the t shirts to support the team...buy tickets..to support the team...buy the food and drinks at the game...but we really don't want the kids at the games? How many adults would buy a ticket and go without their kids? We all went to the games without our parents when we were in school..when did we become the "old grouch next door"? It is THEIR school..and their youth memories (you had your chance). If we need a "special" section...it should be for "uptight cranky people only". I am so tired of hearing about how bad the youth of Lamar county are. Maybe some of you need to open your eyes and see..some of our kids do good...in school, church and socially as well. Consider a "must show school ID" policy to get into the games..IF caught doing wrong..punch the school ID and after that..they could be required to have a parent to be admitted...instead of making blanket comments about how awful all the kids are. School sponsored activities shoud be for the school kids. How can they learn social skills if we don't let them be social? Kick out the trouble makers..leave the rest alone. How can you expect our kids to grow and try in Lamar county with all of you hiding behind a screen and telling them how awful and worthless they are. It takes a village..not the village idots...
yeah, seriously, when i was in middle school and went to a high school football game, all we did was walk the cirlce around summers field and hang out with friends.
its just an activity for the kids.
put the police at the gate and make them ask are you here to watch the game or associate. if youre not watching the game then leave, you cant go in.
i went to a mary persons game last year and all their middle school kids were running around and associating with each other and the ones who wanted to watch the game were in the stands. the children's activities did not interfere with me watching, following or enjoying the game.
im 37 now and did the same things at the football games the when i was 13 and 14 that the kids are doing today.
get over it. is this really a big deal or is it just somthing to gripe about?
