Voter fraud admissions rock Jackson city council

Admission to some 40 counts of voting irregularities by one councilman have rocked the Jackson city council, resulted in huge fines and could lead to criminal prosecutions.

WKEU radio is reporting councilman Tommy Rainey admitted to rigging the election which he won. He has been fined $158,000.

Evelyn Brown was fined $500 for voting for Rainey in his district despite having moved from the area prior to the vote. Debra Brown was fined $20,000 for signing and certifying bogus ballots, according to the radio station.

Marshall Avett, former publisher of The Jackson Progress Argus, was fined for voting in the election though he lived in Decatur at the time it was conducted.

The case is expected to be presented to district attorney Richard Milam who will evaluate it for possible criminal prosecutions.

Why do people feel they have to "cheat".....
Says alot about the character they are LACKING!

How is that ridiculous? Do the years of good simply dissappear because of one bad incident? I think not, the FACT is, he has done a lot of good for Jackson. I sure hope you never make a stupid mistake, aside from your posts. Grow up.

Your lack of comprehension skills are apparent. Allow me to explain in more detail;

FACT: Through the years as councilman, Raney has done a lot of good for Jackson. Yes, he also did something stupid, but that doesn't simply eradicate his past performance history.

I don't agree with the recent incident, but he still has done a lot of good for jackson, and that won't be forgotten.

No worse than Lenora calling a secret meeting of the city council in Barnesville to increase her own pay. Thank God the Geigers busted her on that. If Devane gets elected he will be her boy on the council.

I agree with #4...there are alot of crooks in Jackson. Get this...Major Mike Overby of the BCSO was videotaped and recorded on two seperate occasions durings a sting operation. Sheriff Gene Pope confronted him, but Overby resigned from his job. Pope, Richard Milam, the GBI, etc. said they could not bring on an investigation due to "no witnesses coming forward". This has just happened within the last couple of weeks. Just go to Jackson Progress Argus and read where he was caught on video, then read the other article that says "No investigation on Overby". Something just doesn't sound right. THERE'S SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON OVER THERE IN BUTTS COUNTY !!!

Before you start talking about someone, make sure you know how to spell their name correctly. Why not explain the whole situation of why Tommy was upset that day in front of the BBQ Restaurant. I bet you won't try to tell someone else how to run their Fire department again...

I read the story over there. That is crazy. The wonderful system we have in this district.

Butts county has been "off the chain" for years. I remember hearing stories back when i was in highschool about things that went on within their department. This came from people that knew some of the employees. Lots of crooked stuff been going on over there. If they could ever remove Gene Pope maybe things would change over there in Mayberry.

Major Mike Overby was videotaped and recorded on two separate occasions purchasing narcotic pain pills. He resigned from his job with no ivestigation. He's arrested people for the same thing and he gets off with nothing more than a resignation? Hmmmmmm....
