Obama releases text of today's speech to kids

The White House released overnight the text of the speech President Barack Obama will deliver to the nation's schoolchidlren today.

The President: Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? I’m here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today.

As the official T.O.T.U.S (Teleprompter of the United States) I sure hope I do not break down and cause our wonderful speech reader President to fumble this.

So this is the speech that has caused so many parents to be up in arms and refuse to let their children hear it? Where is the danger in a speech that proposes taking charge of ones education to gain maximum benefit from it. Parents who kept their children from hearing this speech deserve a swift boot in the rear. And a boot to the educators who allowed them to get away with it. Applause to President Obama for taking the time to address the nation's school chldren in such a positive way.

If I recall right, President Bush was bashed over and over for being at a school when 9/11 happened.
Now it is OK for Obama to be at a school (and broadcast live) his speach to all children throughout America.

Okay. Repeat what you just said. How stupid are you? When Obama made a speech their was not any terrorist attacks going on. When Bush was at a school in Florida he had knowledge of the attacks but kept talking to the kids. You made yourself look dumb!

Thank you President Obama for setting a great example for not only our children; but, for all American's as well! The speech was very inspirational. Also, thank you President Obama for talking to our children about personal responsibility...this is a MUCH NEEDED topic for all children to hear today.

problem is he dont say that to grown people. He isnt for personal responsibility for people over 18 years of age. Sure, encourage the young ones to be productive. He needs to quit cadering to the adults that are sorry in this country.

This was a wonderful speech. Parents- if you let your children miss this. Then you should be locked up. No child deserves to miss school for a silly reason. I say send the sheriff to these peoples houses if they don't have a doctors excuse to miss school!

If you think that was THE LAST SPEECH, you are dumber than he is, and can probably get assigned to his cabinet. Maybe even have a beer with him. This opens the door for his next one. He is a SNEAKY man who is fooling all of you once more. C'mon, now you will vote for his Health Plan, won't you? If you cannot believe Hitler, or the anti-Christ obama...who can you trust. I heard the 666 bar codes will come in assorted colors for you fashion minded people.

Aparently you do not have a child in our school system or you would know that the children were given opt out permission slips for this event.

If it's not your child or your personal feelings about this man and what he is doing to our country that is involved here, perhaps you should keep your opinion to yourself.

Hey "It's me" I have seen the letters. However, I think it is silly to even send them out. I have heard teachers will use this as a teaching tool. I guess your child will miss out. If you are so smart why you didn't run for president? I can see having a president named "It's me"

Have you lived in America the past 8 years? Bush has brought us to our knees! War after war!(Some say they weren't concerned with people losing houses until the white community started. Is this true?) He shot up the oil prices for personal gain. The list goes on and on. Give President Obama a chance. I believe it's a race issue. Because he hasn't even been in office for a year yet. But yet you want everything fixed in 2 months. Give him a break he has a lot of cleaning to do from the Bush administration. Please don't forget where we come from.

The President of the United States can speak to my child anytime, no permission slip needed. What a great speech and no doubt inspiration for many kids. Anytime the President is focusing on our youth, it can only be a good thing for our country.

It saddens me to see people allow hate or prejudice prevent a positive message to our young people. It makes me wonder where these people were the last 40 years while both parties steered us into the mess we are in.

For some of us, it doesn't matter what good someone tries to do. If there is anything they don't like they act like an angry Lynch mob.

We allowed Regan to address students and promote his "taxes are evil" speeches, while he oversaw the same increase in government spending everyone else had. We allowed G HW Bush to ask students to write him.

When I was a child I watched Presidents Kennedy, Eisenhower, and others speak. Our entire school lined up along the brand new Interstate behind our football field as Eisenhower spoke about his "agenda" to connect the country with more Interstates, I remember that to this day. My son watched Jimmy Carter speak live. No one would dream of preventing a president from speaking to children, or even of hearing an opinion from the other side in a classroom.

I hate to say this, but I'm starting to think a great deal of this might be because some white people can't stand a black person who might be smarter than they are, or they simply hate anyone who does not conform exactly to their personal religious beliefs. This may be why so many innocent people have been slaughtered in the name of God throughout history.

I think this was a very insightful comment Tom. Very well put! I enjoyed the speech and encouraged my children to respect the president and listen to him. It is OK if they have a different opinion, but show him the same respect you would a teacher or policeman, etc.

I thought about a reply but then I thought, it just isn't worth it. Your comments are directed toward race and hate with denial that it has anything to do with his own actions. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin. It has nothing to do about his political party. It has everything to do with how he has conducted himself as president and the people he is aligning with, and the actions he is taking to direct this country in the wrong direction.

As Americans we are so sad whatever happen to respecting the president no matter which party he was from I know this black president thing is hard for some of you to grasp it's still surreal to blacks but we are trying to support his values like we have done for over 200 years for the white presidents, He really means well for America as we all do lets give him a chance, that speech had no harm intended. God Please Bless America and help us to walk in your likeness.

I don't think any of this has to do with the color of his skin. If it weren't for White American voting for him, he would have never made it into office. Think about that. The white people had enough faith in him to vote for him. The underlying issues are all of this socialist crap he is trying to get passed through congress. I don't think people didn't want the children to watch his speech because they are fed up with his agenda. Not because he is black. They are a lot of people that are smart enough to read his Bills and understand them for what they are.

I believe that people are afraid of Change. Thats why OUR president gets a lot of bad reviews. He built his campaign on Change. Remember YES WE CAN!? When I was in school we were allowed to watch the O.J. Simpson trial. I hardly remember a slip being sent home asking for my parents permission to view the trial. Lets not forget that regardless if we agree to OUR Presidents policies, he is INDEED OUR PRESIDENT. If our children should become easily influenced by someone who better to influence them than OUR President?

You can approve of the Mistake we made at election time and be proud enough to sign your name. I would not want you people to be in a fox hole with me during war. When re-election time comes, I hope they print enough Anonymous ballots.
