A prayer vigil for Barnesville city council member Anne Claxton will be held Wednesday, September 16 at 7:50 p.m. in the parking lot at First Baptist Church of Barnesville.
Claxton has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and is scheduled to undergo major surgery later this week at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Esophageal cancer is a malignant (cancerous) tumor of the esophagus, the muscular tube that moves food from the mouth to the stomach. Esophageal cancer is relatively uncommon in the United States, and occurs most often in men over 50 years old. It affects less than 5 in 100,000 people. There are two main types of esophageal cancer --squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.

When I moved back to Barnesville Anne was one of the first people I met. From the moment we were introduced I have never been in her presence when she was not smiling, laughing, or just being a genuinely nice person.

After doing some research I found out that esophageal cancer is relatively uncommon in the United States, and occurs most often in men over 50 years old. It affects less than 5 in 100,000 people.
I have no doubt that with the strong will I have seen in Anne combined with the love and support of her family and community that she will defeat this enemy.
Anne, if you read this, my personal prayers are being sent out for you. May God bless you and keep you comforted.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!
Ms Anne, you will be remembered on many Prayer lists throughout the county and I know that with God's help you will beat this thing.
God Bless You.
Who hasn't moved to this area and met Ann and thought to themselves, "If everyone is this nice, I'm going to love living here!"
God bless you Ann, my prayers are with you.
