The top spot in the Region 5AA standings and all-important seeding for post season play will be on the line tonight night when the Lamar County Trojans battle the Callaway Cavaliers at Trojan Field.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.  This will be the biggest game yet in the short history of Trojan Field.

Georgia High School Football Daily lists it as one of the top 10 game in the state for this weekend. GHSFD had this to say about the contest:

It's sure to be a great night, all the kids from Rec dept get in free if they have on team jersey's, and fox 5 is going to be there. Trojans, show everyone what you're made of!!!

Altough the Trojans are having an outstanding year to this point, the Cavaliers are a whole different beast to what we have played so far. I know it is great for the community to "hype" this to a playoff type atmosphere, I just dont want people to get depressed from the final outcome. Point is, the Trojans are going to make the playoffs this year. Jason Strickland has and will continue to make the Trojans more competitive each year, but WE wont beat Callaway!

While Coach Goofyname's points could be presented a little better, the points he makes are true. This is a BIG game for the Trojans and is an opponent of the caliber we've not faced yet (except maybe Mary Persons). The boys in blue have to come out rolling and stay strong the WHOLE game! If we start off like against Jordan, Callaway is probably going to shut us down.

Full stands and lots of noise will help but ultimately its up to the players and coaches on the field.

Actually, it's not the biggest defeat. Check your stats again. Just looking at the last 3 seasons, We lost to Callaway in 2008 (see above), Macon County in 2008 49-0, as well as losing to Callaway in 2007 52-7. So....... Keep digging!

Anyone that has something Negative to say needs to be drug through the mud! these boys put their heart in every game! No matter what happened tonight things have changed! look at at our stats from last yr to now! we knew this was going to be our hardest game this year and it didn't help that the fans (like always when we are down on the score board) showed no support! we could hear the others cheering louder than people sitting just down from us. the boys need our support winning or not and it really helps pump them up to hear us cheering them on! I am NOT disappointed in our Trojans at all! But I am very disappointed in the fans than went times are tough they left our boys on the field alone! We need to be there holding them up no matter what the score says!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The negative posts on here must not have been from any true fans at the game. Callaway is on a different level than any other team in our region. Their team is stacked with Div 1 players and they played like it tonight. So Lamar lost to the best team in the region, they still have a great chance off finishing their season with only one region loss. Nothing is "changing back" - it was ONE game. Before you make fun of the home team for getting beat so bad do your homework and look at the points Callaway has put up against all the other teams in the region - Its a lot! Lamar will win out the season and get the Number 2 spot for home-field advantage in the playoffs!! Suddenly it changes is right!! Go Trojans!!!

Like I said above, we didn't come out ready to play. Callaway stuck their first 3 possessions in the endzone and LC's was 3 & punt. We dug ourselves into a hole and Callaway covered us up.

But, CHIN UP! Callaway is tough team. We need to come out next 4 games kickin'!!! Final game, at home, against Manchester could be a fight for #2 in region! Going from basement to #2 ain't bad!!!

Calloway beat us with the same play that Mary Person beat us with, they ran that play a number of times they must have studied those tapes. Coach needs to come up with a good defensive play for that one play and perhaps we would have been able to limit some of those touchdowns. Anyways good Job Trojans second place isn't so bad just hold onto it it belongs to You All!!

when my son played for lamar county one thing he could count on...rain..shine..sleet...snow...win...or...lose if he looked in the stands...he would see me watching him.if he sat on the bench...he would see me watching him sat on the bench.P E O P L E support these kids. every child on that field is A L L of our kids.dont leave the game before your child is off the field.

What a shame we have people who are doing this to our kids - hope they aren't reading this.
To our Trojans - it matters not to me if you loose every game 100 to 0. The fact of the matter is you are in the weight room rather than the street, you are studying and making good grades rather than considering dropping out, you are on the football field on Friday night rather than on the street dealing drugs. You are good kids and I am very proud of you as are your teachers and principals!! Don't listen to this negativity - they truly have nothing else to do!!

I was so proud of how hard Lamar County fought last night despite being beaten badly be an obviously bigger, faster and stronger Callaway squad. I was also impressed with the spirit the TRUE Trojan fans had throughout the game even though it was obvious early on we could not win. There were a few neigh sayers behind me that criticized everything from the players to the coaches to the new stadium. We don't need your seven bucks folks. Stay away and spend it on a forty. The Trojans will get things back on track next week at Crawford County and still have much to play for. I will concede that Callaway is head and shoulders above anyone in our region. We have a chance to still get the number two seed and host a play off game. That should be the goal now. Win the rest of them. Not giving up on this year at all but the future looks bright for Lamar County football with a great coaching staff and the MS and JV teams a combined 8-0, I guarantee you within the next few years, if the kids stay in the program and work hard, we can reach the same level as Callaway.

Did not even get that correct. I will never watch Fox 5 again since they felt we had to beg them to come here. Wish we had played better for them. Sure they will never come back now

Did anyone watch Fox 5 news Friday night? They kept saying that the Lamar-Callaway game wa coming up but NEVER DID SHOW IT!! I'm sorry that we lost. I'm sure the boys on the team were crushed spiritually as well as physically. It just reinforces what a lot of people have said - a multimillion dollar stadium does not a football team make.

Coach blew that game. how do you need 20 yards and run a screen play? that play has never worked throw it out. I say lets bring back Scan atleast he was able to but 7 on the board last year. Can someone please tell my why we are paying Scan almost $100,000? To do what? He is useless and wasting our tax money!
You people need to grow up these are kids out here playing. If you think that you are here to watch professionals then stay home. You should be supporting our football team regardless of a win or loss. Children are harmless and fragile. I sure hope that those of you who are bad mouthing the children of our future do not have any children of your own because I would not want to see how they turn out with idiots for parents.
These guys have played an awesome season thus far and will continue to do so. Coach Strickland and been a GREAT asset to Lamar County football and he truly cares about each of his players REGARDLESS of their skin color. Grow up and learn to love people and not hate that is what is wrong with this world today!

Dwell on this for just a few seconds. Callaway Cavs beat Lamar County 44 to zip and they have walked through Region 5AA in the same manner; but they lost to Lovett School by the score of 56 to 28 from Region 6AA.

Does anyone want our Trojans to play teams from Region 6AA or continue to play the weak teams from Region 5AA?

Coach Strickland has had a better 2 years then Scan had the whole time coaching here. Scan is a good man, but we don't need or want him back coaching. This entire coaching staff now is transforming our present and future Trojans to be Champions. Yes, we lost last night. Don't blame it on the coach. Look at what we were up against. I don't think we gave it our all out there either, but it's ok. Our Trojans have played this season with more heart and dedication and it shows. We are still headed to the playoffs. We will move on to next and get ready for next week! Our Trojans are still winners!

Coach Scan is totally dedicated to the success of our student athletes and our program as a whole. He has roots here now and doesn't deserve to see or hear about comments like yours. I am a proud parent of a LCCH Trojan. It bothers me to hear the comments of some of the people that have expressed themselves on this blog. How can we expect any decency and Pride from our Kids when they have to hear such rudeness from Adults. We need to stand behind our boys who have worked really hard to get where they are today many of which have played on this team when they were 1-9 and had to hear all of the disincouragement and disappointment from some people in our community often times displayed in the stands during or after a game. Now our boys are trying to bring a winning tradition to Lamar County and return some of the Trojan Pride to our community and they still have to hear the disappointment and badmouthing. Either you are going to be on the Trojan bandwagon WIN or Lose Or you just need to stay off and find you another team to support since it is obvioulsy not the TROJANS.

TO Coach Strickland, Coaching Staff and the HARD WORKING GUYS that make up the 2009 LCCH TROJAN FOOTBALL TEAM keep your heads up the season is not over because of this one game you still have 4 more to go continue to play hard and you will be victorious. YOU ARE ALREADY #1 in my book and you didn't have to beat CALLAWAY to get there.

As a personal friend of Coach Scandrett, I take offense to all the negative things written about him on this blog. Scan took over Lamar County football at a time when the talent level was down a bit. He knew this. Mark Wilson sure knew this. That is why he bailed after leading us to back to back region titles and the school's first and only unbeaten regular season to date. When Coach Scandrett realized that he was not the man to get the program back on the right track, he graciously stepped aside and helped with naming his successor and did a dang good job of it. Now he is the school's activities/athletic director and along with his teaching duties is not a job many of us would want to have. Scan even though he is a product and alum of Mary Persons is a true Trojan now through and through. He cares about our schools, our kids and our community. Not many of us can claim that either. Coach Scan, many of us love you and think the world of you and appreciate the job you have done and continue to do for Lamar County.

Agree with you anonymous. Mark Wilson was smart enough to leave when he did. Scandrett did all he could do with the talent that he had around him. I like him as the AD and Strickland and the coach. I see big things for the Trojans in the coming years. Keep up the great work! I'm loving how the Lamar school system is coming up in the ranks.

I am the one to come on here and let everyone know that we in NO WAY can beat a team like Callaway. Every Trojan fan that called, emailed and pleaded for FOX 5 to come down here was ignorant. Then I read up top someone was upset that FOX 5 didnt show any highlights? What was to show? Trojan players following Callaway into the endzone time after time? Or the Trojan offense that went backwards more than they did forward? In the end the Trojans will be fine, they will improve....it's the fanbase in Lamar I'm worried about, they seem to be like they dont have a damn clue about football!
