Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, Milner police chief Jake Sutton was able to arrest an alleged burglar within minutes of his having broken into Greater Spring Hill Baptist Church at 117 Locust Street Monday.
Aldine Kimbell, a 30-year-old white male who resides in Milner at 123 Moore Street, was captured near Mt. Sinai Church on Garden Circle, also in Milner. His appearance and clothing matched a description of a suspicious person called in earlier by the alert citizen.
Kimbell attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident. A quick check learned he was wanted in Griffin and Spalding County for probation violations.
Kimbell was taken to the Lamar County jail and Sutton checked both churches. Greater Spring Hill had been burglarized. In that it is a place of worship, the case was turned over to the GBI. All items stolen from the church were recovered, Sutton said.
Kimbell now faces additional charges of burglary and obstruction of an officer.
"It is imperative that our citizens continue to become involved and pass on information they observe. In this case, the detail provided alowed us to locate this subject while he still had possession of the stolen objects," Sutton said.
He noted this kind of tip is what is expected of the Neighborhod Watch program he, sheriff Larry Waller and Barnesvile police chief Chuck Keadle are trying to implement.
Sutton also praised the support and assistance his department received from the LCSO and GBI.
I can't help but wonder why the LCSO failed to alert citizens about the Magnum house burglars until comments were made on THIS blog about them.
Little wonder the criminals were caught...
...in another county.
Great choice Lamar, looking better every day.
For the moment. How many "chiefs" has that backwater had in the last 10 years?
Isn't that the place the framed an innocent man for shooting one of their "finest"? Locked up for six months for something he didn't do. Great bunch of folks...Not.
"You are so right Lamar County, City of Barnesville and City of Milner are looking better every day! It is a safe feeling to live in a community where Law Enforcement works together. They cannot stop all the crime but at least they are in unity once again!"
Yea! Last time this crowd "worked together", they framed an innocent man for a shooting he didn't commit.
Straight out of the 1960's Deep South playbook. Better hope they don't frame you for something!
One thing Hollywood gets exactly right is the depiction of rural law enforcement in the Deep South. The incident in Milner is ample evidence of the "Bubba" factor.
Injustice is something everyone should never forget, and the perpetrator(s) should never be allowed to forget either. I'll never understand why Milner and Waller weren't sued into poverty by that guy. Poor dude probably just wanted to get as far away as fast as possible. Can't blame him at all.
Virginia and New Jersey corrected their mistakes yesterday. Lamar will get it's chance soon enough. Maybe sooner if we are lucky.
