In the Barnesville city council election Tuesday, November 3, challenger Mark Stone defeated incumbent Cecil Butch McDaniel in the Ward 5 race.
In Ward 4 voting, Larry Whitworth was the top vote getter followed by Robert Neal Devane.
Whitworth and Devane will settle the issue in a runoff set for December 1.
In Pike County, the SPLOST referendum was handily defeated.
Mark Stone (left) won the Ward 5 race. Larry Whitworth and Robert Neal Devane will face off in a runoff Dec. 1 in the Ward 4 race.

i'll have to see that one,in lamar county!the most corrupt little "good ol boy" county in the state..LOL LOL LOL LOL
"Have you considered moving?"
And this is the kind of person you people want?
I remember the deal about the super sized fire truck. Not sure about releasing the brake. That is funny however. You never know little small things that you may forget to do in the heat of the battle.
Have you ever lost your keys? We can point fingers and show each others slip ups but bottom line is that Neal will expose anything that isnt right. He gets harrassed all the time (or used to under Buice) about taking pics and exposing the things under that administration.
I think he wouldnt let things just get swept under the rug. That is the negative part of politics. Out of sight, out of mind.
On the subject of exposure why would someone always be talking to a certain local blond female crack head?
I also heard that the computer was screwed up that was there. Milo fell victim to the deal with the computer i think.
Like i said, there is 2 sides to every story.
I still would like to hear more about the deal with the black guy that was gonna get booted off and threatened the city with a lawsuit.
This is what all sparked Neals trip down hill from what i can remember.
I like ole Insane Devane. He was very passionate and gung ho about the whole FD job/career. I dont think many people in the state can hold a candle to that mans love for firefighting.
Id say he would do a great job for ward 4. Larry may do a fine job as well. I just like Neals whole outlook to get things out into the open and not sweep stuff under the rug.
That's interesting! He has a partner in the elected office?
Neal informed the superiors that the new fire truck would not fit but he was told to order it anyway.
Why? Because the truck was purchased with SPLOST funds for several hundred thousand dollars, then sold, and a new smaller truck purchased for a couple hundred thousand dollars less. Thus the funds were used but then the switch-a-roo truck scam netted a misuse of SPLOST to the tune of a couple hundred thousand. Where that went to is anybody's guess. It didn't go toward paying the orginal debt of the first truck and the county didn't get the funds back. This is merely hidden agenda corruption and the things you never here about.
There is also some interesting unknow facts about the bomb scares in Barnesville with some high ranking superiors unavailable. I'v heard some things about this that apparently never made the news.
So if Neal had a vendeta to serve, I would think he would already be bringing things like this up. He hasn't. He apparently has the city's best interest at heart and not a past issue.
Those of you that continue to try and discredit him only have a hidden agenda of your own. Either that or fear Neal might spill the beans on unknown corruption. He is aware of much of it and where and who are involved in it. I guess those are the people making the slanderous comments.
One thing is for sure. He definately doesn't fit in the good old boy catagory. So he has no advantage there. I guess you could expect honest representation from him.
That speaks well for the intelligence, or lack of intelligence, from some of your comments. One of these individuals should be elected for their ability to do the job for those people that elect them and Ward 4 voters are the only opinions that count.
I do not know Larry Whitworth but I do know Neal Devane. My opinion is that he would be a fine choice and apparently 56 other voters feel he is confident to do the job too. It also appears that it will be up to the other 95 voters as to which way they will swing their vote. Derogatory comments can hurt the opposite opponent so; the obvious Whitworth supporters should consider that as they make their post. The same would apply to the Devane supporters. Allow those 95 voters to decide who they want representing them and allow the candidates to make their own plea for office to them. The rest of you should stay out of the way.
