City firefighters, backed up by their county allies, were battling a blaze on Stafford Ave. in Barnesville, Wednesday afternoon.

Whoa they stopped a fire?!?!


Oh ok....nevermind....city firefighters. If that was out in the county there would be nothing left of the house.

I have you know that there was the same # of city & county firefighters there. You people need to realize that everything that the fire dept does is not always a loss. You also need to keep in mind that this county runs off of a VOLUNTEER fire dept. One paid firefighter on duty everyday can't fight fire alone. It takes SEVERAL firefighters to fight a fire. You have to wait on those to appear on scene. Also, there is not enough HYDRANTS in the county. So yes, water supply does become an issue when trying to fight fire when there isn't a hydrant available. Those of you that are so against the fire dept are only showing your ignorance. Let's see what you think about the fire dept after you need them & they come to your rescue!

Where I live I'm content knowing that if my house catches on fire there is no way of getting help in time for it to be saved. I've come to that realization. The problem IS that the entire department is volunteer, and lets face it, most of those volunteers can't do the job so it's a good thing they aren't getting paid for it. So yeah, if my house catches on fire I will call 911 so that your department can arrive about 25 minutes later and maybe save the trees behind whats left of my home. Actually, take your time, find some water, maybe if enough trees burn down it'll clear out a place to build my new home.

Yeah yeah yeah. 10 city and county firefighters and one Griffin firefighter. Yes, Ms. Martha and MacFadyen is ok. We had a kitchen fire. Gas! No drug. We are still rebuilding it.

Thank God everyone was ok! I know those people, graduated high school with her daughter. THEY AREN'T DRUGGIES! I know how it is to lose everything you own in a fire. SO PRAISE THE CITY FIREFIGHTERS! That's not the first time they've put out a fire and saved a building. They saved the old buggy building where susannah's is a few years ago. It's a miracle the building didn't go up in flames as old as it is. The building suffered mostly smoke damage. Oh yeah, and AMEN to #2! AL MOLTRUM WOULD MAKE AN AWESOME SHERIFF! Our family has known their family for years, they're really great people. HONEST PEOPLE TOO!

No taxes. Congrats to the Lamar County Commissioners. Approval of SPLOST. Good job Lamar County Commissioners. More taxes are not the answer. Yes a fulltime paid Barnesville and Lamar County firefighters with all the firehouse manned 24 hours and 7 days. Why? Because the fire, rescue and medical. Why do we need a new fire station? Because the citizens voted for it and they said so. Not only 1 firefighters. We can go on 9 or 12 firefighters. Jay Matthews noted applying for 9 or 12. County and City firefighters staying at the new station 24 hours. Nancy Thrash noted the engine and ambulance now in Milner will be moved to the new station. Those at the Parker Branch station will then move to Milner. 9 volunteer firefighters staying at the Parker Branch or Piedmont station 24 hours. The fiefighters save 3 or 4 mins. Oh yeah. See ya next year or 2 years. You will see.

Al Moltrum should not be sheriff. Patrol police Lt. Al Moltrum. Not crime scene investigation. Not first on the scene of the fire.

I think Lt. Moltrum would be a great Sheriff! It would be a loss to the Barnesville Police Dept, but who cares.
