A three-vehicle crash at the deadly intersection of highways 18 & 341 in Barnesville left four people, including two children, injured Tuesday morning.

How many more wrecks is it going to take before Lamar County gets with the times and installs a turning light from the BUSIEST intersection in this town. HELLO!!!SIMPLE SOLUTION TO A MAJOR PROBLEM!!! There needs to be a right and left turn light (ya know the one with the green arrow) at 18 turning left on 341 and for all traffic turning left onto 341 off of Rose Ave.
Lamar County or Barnesville gov't has nothing to do with putting up a turn arrow light here. This is a state DOT decision, as both roads are state highways. And yes, by now the state should be aware of this problem and should have fixed it. Problems always get fixed at the speed of government, which is pretty slow.
BECAUSE it is a State highway and the the State won't do it!!!!!!! Lamar Co has been asking for years !!!!!!!!! Lamar Co can't even pay for it and get one - they have to have the STATE'S PERMISSION!!!!!!!
Killer intersection? Should be called stupid people crash... Its as safe as any other intersection. Maybe because its near a school with inexperienced drivers or near aldora where some of the counties "brightest" live at. If u PAY attn its safe. Think we need better drivers ed here esp for elder ppl and students.
If you are turning left from the Cvs side and cars are in the turning lane on the opposite side, you can't see! If you are going straight, sure it's a great intersection, I have had a close call trying to turn there, and won't turn there again. I will go out of the way, it's to risky, unless of course there aren't any cars on the other side, which is hardly ever.
Funny I have been turning there for years and have never had any close calls, problems or accidents.
Granted a Turn light there would be helpful because many of the accidents caused there are from impatient people not wanting to wait through the next light.
I live in Aldora and how in the hell do you figure where not the "brighest". We do not cause the wrecks nor are every one of the wrecks that happen at Ga 7 & and Hwy 18 has somebody that lives in Aldora in it, but since you are not the "BRIGHTEST" you probally know it as Hwy 341 and Hwy 18 and one more thing if you think we are bad drivers you know the not so bright people I have been asking for the sheriff dept to patrol are streets because young mind less non driving kids thinks it a race track! NOW thats probally YOUR "BRIGHTEST" spoiled brat!
Grow up, you two! Dumb people populate the world--heck, you probably have a few in your own family. I know I do. Down here, in general, if you were born in the country, attended a simple school, and didn't go to college, then yeah, you aren't very bright. But that's only because your education wasn't continued (which, in itself, might not have been a "bright" decision) and weren't subjected to more information and knowledge. Guess what--dumb people are EVERYWHERE!!!!
Now that we've cleared that up--driving accidents are usually caused by a lack of attention and proper caution from one party or another. This demonstrates a lack of common sense, which has nothing to do with your level of "brightness." There are tons of smart people who invariably do stupid things and vice versa, where there are tons of "stupid" people who continue to make right choices (moderate drinking, no drugs, etc.) because they *do* have common sense. That is something education can't fix and thus has nothing to do with whether the people around areas with frequent accidents have a higher education.
I have a request THG. I know that somewhere you must have hundreds of pics from wrecks at this intersection since the paper's long history. I'd be interested to see a montage of all the photographs, especially over the last few years. It would be a lot of work I'm sure....just think of it as a Christmas gift.
While the idea of a full color book of twisted metal sitting on my living room table does excite me, I too think this would be a great idea for other reasons. As a comment below mentioned, maybe compiling as many pictures as you can and then someone sending that slideshow or book to enough people, maybe that will open some eyes. I hope you were kinda serious Walter, I'm excited to see where that may lead.
I don't know how many people these days remember when there was no light at all. When I learned to drive, 18 had stop signs and that was it. I had a few friends get killed there and a few more seriously injured in the late 80's. The Nazarene pastor's daughter, wife, and son for example that were hit by a logging truck. It wasn't the trucker's fault by the way. This light isn't perfect, but if people would pay better attention, it is better than what it was. Would it benefit from a turn signal for all directions, probably, especially with the schools and such. But all this pointless argument and blaming others over it doesn't make it better. It saddens me that society had degenerated to this level. Can we go back to the days where we at least argued in the same room?
Mama and I went to Ingles over the weekend and I made sure to tell her, she's from out of town, that the signs up beside the pretty green light, that you can't hardly read at certain times of the day/night mean exactly what they say, YIELD, ALWAYS. It's a very lovely, SOLID green light not an arrow so she understands that the car coming from the other side is not going to stop even if your light is green because there's is too. Such a shame Mr. Walter has to visit this intersection so much, you'd think our fine commissioners would get a slight bit embarrassed by all of the attention. Perhaps it's time for us fine citizens to get their attention on the roadside with a little small town persuasion, maybe some homemade signage at the lights in the grass on the side of the road??? Why, I'd volunteer and do it for free to stop all of these unfortunate accidents here.
I do hope all the blue bloods that just had to have multiple bypasses around their serene downtown are pleased. Certainly the increased traffic on 341 as a result would not have anything to do with the increased accident rate at these locations.
What I am waiting for is another massive accident with a train where the RR crosses 341.
The stupidity of the people in charge around here never ever ceases to amaze
well dont talk about it, be about it. Get all the photos and create a slide show. Send it to every big official in atlanta that has anything to do with the DOT or any high ranking official. Watch how quickly this thing would get pushed through. We need to get some of these idiots that represent barnesville that have no back bone to stand up for what they believe in.
I agree that if you cant see, dont turn. Ive never had an issue but i do agree that the turning left from the funeral home to go south on 341 can be a doozy.
I agree. Lets fix it. Now how do you fix people that have no business driving? Face the facts. Not looking and being in a rush causes accidents.
If you can't see and proceeding anyway on a hope and a prayer is just an accident looking for a place to happen. It should be obvious that it will find that place sooner than later.
honestly, you shouldn't say anyone is stupid.. because firstly you have no idea who was involved in the accident... and you don't know what happened in the accident.. when you find out what really happened then you can comment all you want.. but for the mean time don't worry about it..
Aparently the problem there goes beyond just not paying enough attention or there would not be so darn many incidents. There is definitely room for improvment there and it needs to be addressed.
How many time? Deadly crash. Grove, Rose, Atlanta, Forsyth, Zebulon, Van Buren, Parker Brarch, City Pond, Abbott, Martin Luther King, Hwy 18 east, Hwy 18, Hwy 341 south, Hwy 36 north, I 75, Hwy 36 east, Hwy 36 west and Old 41 hwy.
Saw the accident and it looked like the read car ran a red light going straight from 341 - heading to Ingles. The white SUV was turning and had the right away.
It is a person of poor imagination who can only think of one way to spell a word.

I know someone that seen it happen and they said the lady in the red car ran the red light.
There is nothing you can do in this case to fix the problem.
If Walter is going to go back and post all those pictures he should mention at the bottom of each picture who was at fault. Maybe then everyone will start to see a pattern.
Part of the problem is people don't know the laws or pay attention to them. I can't count how many times I have been making a right on green and some fool has made a left in front of me. Sit on any corner or at a light and watch how people drive, or watch the yield signs on Greenwood and Market. It's a wonder we don't have more wrecks.
If the red car ran the red light so did the SUV because she pulled out in front of the red car. That is the only way she got hit

Red car ran RED light and hit the white 4 door PU when it was going through it's side of the intersection with a GREEN light. That's how it got in front of the red car. How does two vehicles run red lights and hit each other? One has RED and the other GREEN.
If you are stuck in the intersection like waiting to turn left you have right of way to clear intersection when light turns red for people coming towards you.
If you are turning left you have no right of way if guy coming towards you has green. This is even if he turns to his right.
Blinking light go by blinking colors. Not 4 ways stop unless all blink red. Dead light go by four way stop.
Yield signs are bad. Idiots at DOT put in yield signs where they conflict with trafic signals. Wife got in wreck and GSP said trafic light takes priority over yield. Yield signs at light with no island teach drivers to be dumb. Yield sign meaningless at light with no island.

The. End.
i cannot count how many times i have been out there. too many tragedies to count.
