The Lamar County Trojans were outscored 27-0 in the second half Friday night and got blown out 34-14 by the North Oconee Titans in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.

The Titans got good field position early after a Nick Fambro fumble. They scored with less than three minutes gone in the first period to take a 7-0 lead.

Lamar then scored twice to go up 14-7. Maurice Bloodser scored on an 8-yard run and Mike Bloodser hit Samuel Smith for a 45-yard scoring strike. Daniel Huggins was good on both PATs.

The Trojans had a great shot to add to their lead late in the first half when the Titans ran a failed fake punt from inside their own endzone. Lamar got the ball inside the 20 but could not capitalize, setting the tone for the second half.

In that second half, the Trojans went through an extended bout of poor tackling and the Titans blew it open.

After the game, Trojan head coach Jason Strickland consoled his squad which finished 7-4, second in the region and as hosts of a first round playoff game after going 1-9 the previous two seasons.

"We came here because we wanted to be with you guys. This is supposed to hurt but I've never loved you more than I love you right now," Strickland said.

He congratulated his seniors on setting the new standard for Lamar County football and challenged his underclassmen to keep raising the bar.

NOTE: Terrance Childs suffered a neck injury, was removed from the field on a backboard by EMTS and taken by ambulance to Upson Regional Medical Center. He was responsive and could move his arms and legs when he left the field. No condition report on Childs was available after the game.

I just want to say that win or lose how much it means to the football players to have Mr. Geiger on the sidelines with them. They love how he rip on the country music add on the scoreboard. My son say he sees somethings before the coaches do.

My uncle told me Geiger was doing the same thing back in the 80s when he played. Nobody gets newspaper support like our team does.

I can't believe 3/4 of the crowd left in the fourth quarter before the game was over! This is rude to the kids playing and the families. If you are truly a respectful fan, you stay and watch your team win AND lose.

I agree. I was sad to see our "fans" leave before the game was over. If there was ever an important time to stay and support the Trojans tonight was the night. This is the last football game most, if not all, the senior players will ever play. To have them look into the stands to see the masses leaving had to make the loss worse.

I totally agree...that was the rudest. I felt so bad to look down on the field and see the players and some coaches look into the stands to see "fans" leaving. You are not a true fan!

I am soooo PROUD of the Trojans and they should be PROUD of themselves as well! Hold your heads high, you guys proved what you really are this year!!! Congratulations Seniors ...you will be missed!

To the Senior Trojan Cheerleaders (and the rest of the you too) I think that yall are fantastic cheerleaders and did a great job this year. Don't let anyone, take that from you. I am proud of each of you. A team is only as good as the coach and the talent. In this case, the talent was there.

I agree. It's a sad commentary that a coach that hasn't been there reduced the Senior Cheerleaders to tears on the last game they'll ever cheer for LCCH. ALL of these cheerleaders have been on the squad since 9th grade. They deserved to be spoken to like the true atheletes they are and not made to feel like they were worthless.

Instead of a traditional farewell speech to the seven senior cheerleaders, the coches told them they were a disappointment and embarrassment. They were blindsided by the stinging "farewell speech" and most, if not all, left the game in tears.

I completely agree #11. We have to support our guys 100% win or lose. I am SOOOO proud of our Trojans for coming this far. It could have been over weeks ago, but our guys have given it their all to get to tonights game.

To all of the Coaches and Players, Great season. Each of you should hold your head up high and be proud to be a Trojan!! Be proud to be a part of the successful season our program has had. I can not believe that a cheer coach and assistant would make the Seniors cry on their last night of cheering and then resort to teas herself? You don't deserve to cry!!!!! Where have you been all year???? If they needed improvement then why not work with them at practice throughout the year and let them know where improvement was needed. That was very low of you to wait until their final game as a Trojan cheerleader to tear them down like that!!!!I hope you get reprimanded for your action! And to say they have an attitiude, this is probably a refelction on their leader(s)!!!! Just saying.............

And to the fans that left in the middle of a quarter that really doe not show true support to these players tha have worked all year to get where they got!!! I was very disappointed as I'm sure the players were. You think they don't notice but if you've ever been in their shoes you know they do notice things like that!

The oline had their butts handed to them last nite. Outside of Mike Bloodser's scrambling, while under duress from NO's DL, there wasn't much continuity of any kind on offense.

Although I'm disappointed with last night's results and that the season is over, I have never been prouder to be a Trojan than I am this year. And I have been a Trojan for a long, long time. The new stadium, the great crowds and the vast improvement the team has made are just a few of the things that make me proud to be a Trojan and look forward to next season. To go from back to back 1-9 seasons to 7 wins and runners up in the region speaks volumes for the effort and work these kids and coaches put into this season. And the best is yet to come. With the three teams in the football program having a cumulative record of 21-5, I'd say the thunder is ready to roll for a long time to come. GO BIG BLUE!!!

Cheerleaders got upset? Is that really surprising? They are highschool girls. They get yelled out and start crying like babies. This is nothing new. And considering its the parents of these same girls complaining, I doubt there is really anything to it.

I was just calling it as everyone else sees it. You notice that no one on this blog is standing up for the heartbroken cheerleaders, except for the obvious parents. Athletes in high school get yelled at all the time. If they wanted to participate in sports then they should expect to be disciplined. They'll be okay.

Coach Howard should have taken lessons from Coach Strickland on how to address the team and especially the Seniors on the last game of their high school careers. He was focused on the positive, which is what a true leader does. Instead, her true immaturity and lack of dedication to HER team was showing bright and clear. My daughter happens to be a Senior so she will never get that moment back. The last seconds of her cheering career were soured unnecessarily. THIS is what all the complaining is about. I just hope that a better and bigger woman steps up and takes over as coach of the cheerleaders next year.

Just in case any body is unaware....cheerleading is a sport. The girls practice all summer, and after school. They don't just don the uniform and show up on Friday night. They put in countless hours fort their sport of choice. It's just sad that for this particular season, it was a THANKLESS effort on their part.

1. Discipline would be one thing if it had been done all season, but it wasnt. In fact the "Coach" was noticeably absent the entire season.

2. I doubt anyone else short of parents or cheerleaders would have known as it took place on the field in the first on the field huddle that took place between cheerleaders and the "Coach"

3. It is fine to chew an athlete out, it was not however fine to do so on the very last game that the Senior girls will cheer. It was not okay it all...Coach Strickland didnt chew his players out for the few mistakes they made in the game and neither should she. It wasnt the time for her to suddenly decide she was the coach and to start doing her job.

4. Obviously you dont have a daughter or you wouldnt have posted that silly stuff.

The two negative comments about Coach Howard are obviously coming from the same parent that needs to teach her daughter how to behave. Coach Howard only reprimanded the cheerleaders for misbehaving not for doing a poor job cheering. Is she supposed to spend her practice sessions teaching your child how to behave? The last I checked you were supposed to do that. But from what I hear you probably don’t know any better yourself.
I don’t know why you are posting your nonsense here anyway…this article is about the success the team had this season. If you really feel that Coach Howard did something wrong why don’t you go to the administration….oh yeah, you didn’t have the guts to show up for that.

I really believe that a reprimand was in order for those cheerleaders who were sitting on the field, laughing and playing during the national anthem. I am sure that Coach Strickland would have done the same to any football player displaying the rude behaviors shown by those Senior girls. Thank goodness for the parents of the players who have taught them manners and respect. Those senior girls have been cheerleaders since ninth grade and so you would think that they would understand the responsibility of representing the school at all functions. The behavior they displayed was not the image we want to be associated with our wonderful team and student body. I am regretful that we are not focusing on the great effort and accomplishments of this year. GO TROJANS!

You can't tell these parents anything. They believe their precious cheerleading daughter does no wrong and everyone else is wrong about her. I say good job to the cheerleading coach. The new football coach got stricter and look how well the football team has turned out. It's good the cheerleading coach is doing the same thing. Coach Strickland was there the whole season for his players, unlike Ms. Howard. He didnt choose the last game the reprimand them for the entire seasons worth of shortcomings. Coach Strickland didnt cancel practice after practice. Coach Strickland met with his players after EVERY GAME, the cheerleaders??? This was the first and ONLY after game meeting. They may have deserved a reprimand, but the timing was bad. IF they goofed off during the anthem she should have immediately said something to THOSE cheerleaders, not at the end of the game to the whole team. It was not the entire team. If she wasnt going to be a coach the whole season, the last game was not the time to start.

I'm very pleased that the team did such a good job, I was delighted with the team.

As a parent and American I'm disappointed in the cheerleaders for disrespecting our great country. Shame on them, their coach, and their parents for not respecting and teaching respect our country.

As a parent of a cheerleader, I think all of this has gone too far, and all of this commentary has turned nasty and spiteful. Not one of the cheerleader parents thinks it is or was okay for the girls to play around during the national anthem. I dont think any of the parents would have been upset if they had been reprimanded for that. But that is not all they were reprimanded. To those of you posting that we cheer parents think our children are perfect, we do not, not at all. But these are good girls who are for the most part very well behaved. The cheerleading parents have no problem with their daughters being reprimanded or with a strict coach. But please dont sit and judge these girls or what happened when you were not there, and you dont know what happened. I personally do not feel like this is a forum for something like this, and I feel like this is nothing short of hateful and spiteful and seems to be going towards criticizing teenage girls and their parents and that would not be fair considering no one knows what happened but the coaches and the cheerleaders. It was brought to the attention of the administration, and it will be dealt with. So lets just leave it alone. Both the football players and cheerleaders had an AWESOME year, so lets just look forward to an amazing year next year and put this behind us.

I did not see the incident with the National Anthem and cheerleaders. I was too busy being appalled at the amount of disrespect being shown by other "fans" during the anthem. I have, however, watched the cheerleaders on several occasions this season and I feel like they did a pretty good job of what they are there for...leading cheers. It was a great year for BIG BLUE from the team, to the fans, to the cheerleaders and everyone else who came out each and Friday night and supported Lamar County football. Let's put the negative behind us and move on with the positive. Greater things are in store for our kids.
