Every couple years the GHSA reclassifies schools based on the number of students. Schools are broken down into five classications based on size: A, AA, AAA,AAAA, and AAAAA. After this classification is done, regions are aligned geographically. We were assigned to a new region (we kept Pike and Crawford from our old region and lost Callaway, Manchester, Heard, Macon, Spencer, and Jordan).
The region this year is Lamar, Pike, Crawford, Northeast Macon, Southwest Macon, Putnam County, Greene County, Morgan County, and Monticello.
This link will show you all the region alignments
The new region alignments won't take effect, until the Fall of 2010, when the new school year begins... Teams with spring sports schedules like tennis, track, & baseball will continue to compete in the current Region-5AA. But, like the other teams, they will -- also -- roll over to the new region, when the new school terms starts in August.
Although losing the rivalry with Manchester, Callaway and Heard County, it will be fun to play new schools. Lamar has never played Northeast, Southwest, Morgan County or Greene County in football and have only played Monticello and Putnam County a handful of times. The geographically correct schools to consider for the two remaining non-region contests are Jackson, Mary Persons and Spalding. It would be nice to at least keep MP on the schedule for the long run and maybe rotate the others.
Agree on MP staying on schedule. Spalding the last 2 years has been pretty good...especially last year with them coming into "Our House" thinking they would run over us.
Well, Callaway and North Oconee came into "our house" and RAN over us!...you said that like it is absurd to beat us at home, when actually we suffered one of our largest beatdowns in awhile at the new stadium.
this is a good thing for the trojans of any sport... easier region to dominate. for football, the coaches should set up more competitive non-region games so region games are easier... maybe callaway or jackson.
I think it is. MP is in a different division and we don't have much at stake when we play them. Pike, on the other hand, is still in our region and we have more to gain in playing them. Plus, they are arrogant and act as if they are better than the LC. I say, kill a pirate and neuter a bulldog.
GO TROJANS!!!
I think overall this is a good thing for the Trojans. It will be provide new competition for them. Though they are losing several seniors I believe they will still win just as many, if not more than the past season. They have tremendous talent throughout the entire team. JV had an amazing season as did the middle school. They will do great. GO TROJANS!
Pike county is not a rival. Not a very good sports program.THey dont have the atheletes. They are good at the country club sports and baseball. Baseball has basically become a country club sport everywhere with the fall ball,camps,indoor/outdoor facilities, team moms, bat bags, personal bats, banquets, endless fundraisers etc. Not hating on baseball anywhere but what it has become. It would be nice to see atheletes play more than just one sport again. Lamar will have success in the new region but will have a tough time with the 2 macon schools in football and basketball. Should definately keep MP on the schedule(gate money) and public interest. Maybe consider Manchester for the other non region game.Lets get real fired Up about the big literary competitions we can have at the new over priced fine arts center. Cant wait to go cheer on the one act play . Bravo, Bravo
Hater. Go back to the swamp and live by yourself because we don't want you around. Your post was both ignorant and bitter. Why can't some support what the school system is doing? I wish we had the facilities when I went to school like what we have now. Also, Pike is good at nearly every sport they play. Not sure how you consider Baseball a country club sport.
maybe when PC gets some public housing they can compete in the non "country club" sports...until then they seem to be happy @ not being the best @ football, basketball, etc...
I think all Blacks are balled from the local country club arent they. By the way country club sports =golf and tennis, 2 great sports i actually enjoy but are usually played by kids whose parents can afford to pay for their lessons, which is not the case at lamar , therefore school districts with higher socio-economic populations usually excell at these sports and literary events( not always but usually)I believe if you check the history, Lamar County would have a large amount of wins over Pike County in Football, Basketball, and Track, and Pike would hold the advantage in Baseball , Soccer, Tennis, and Golf. If i am wrong im wrong. I think its great to have the new sports facillities , they were long over due. We went overboard with the fine arts center. All of the up grades were not done for the kids of Lamar County, however they will benefit from them, which is great. The ones that have and will benefit from all this new construction and spending is Chamberlin and all his Fat Cat freinds on the IDA. These plans were in place way back when he was the Super. Truby is flowing right on with the plans from the famous land swap that the county and school system and most of all, we the tax payers got screwed on. I am certainly not bitter, anything that helps kids stay involved with sports is great. However it is a sad day when High School sports has basically become Rec. Dept. Sports. Well since the OLe Swamp Fox is retired , i think Coach Van Brocklin and myself will go play a round of golf at the local country club. We just cant bring Tiger with us. Happy Trails and no i dont want a to buy a button with my kids sport picture on it and write all over my SUV. JUST KIDDING SOCCER MOMS!
Pike Co. is a baseball-oriented community. They have a different approach to baseball, than do the LC fanbase. Their Dixie Youth Program is one of the strongest in the state, and it shows in their high school program, as well... The kids over there learn how to compete at a high level of competition at a very young age. Not so much, in LC.
Baseball is Pike County's identity. There is just such more interest at the youth level over there, and there is a real commitment from the parents in that community. The community over there takes great pride in being one of the top programs in the state in the Class-AA Classification.
When, Pike Co. has 90+ players tryout for the high school baseball team, and the coach has to cut over 50 of them, then there's your sign. They have no problems with filling 3- team's rosters (V,JV, & 9th Grade) with quality players. They never rebuild over there. They just reload...
If LC could get their youth program at the Rec. Level up to par, then the tide could change... Most of the kids in LC don't really ever get a taste of serious baseball, until they reach high school, and then it's a shock for them to find out what it really takes to compete for a region championship.
