As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVEON ad about Sarah Palin.
The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska . I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

I hope we haven't heard the last from Ms. Palin, I think she could be a force for good in this country.
this system we have created in Washington.
As Mr. Stewart put it...
"when you peel back the pretty, shooty layers of the Palin onion, there's no onion. It's just a conservative boiler plate mad lib: 'Freedom is good and taxes are--ooh I need an adjective--how about, I don't know, silly?' And the worst part it's a mad lib delivered as though it were the hard-earned wisdom of a life well lived,"
I will be interesting to see how many gets sucked into her BS and part with some of their hard earned cash in the process.
No, she most certainly didn't "tear into the (Corrupt Bastard's Club) and send them packing."
The feds did that, before she got into office. She took advantage of the blood in the water to help get her elected. But she had nothing to do with the clean sweep in Juneau; that was the result of the federal investigation that was working its way up to the (shamefully botched) trial of Senator Stevens.
Oil tax reform was championed by Les Gara, a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. When the CBC were swept out, a bipartisan majority was formed in the State Senate, and the House majority was diminished and driven far enough to the center that the issue got traction.
True, Palin didn't stand in the way, because she was still trying to position herself as a moderate. She only had her eye on state politics at that point, and Alaskans, most of whom don't declare a party, tend to be more Libertarian than Republican. Mainly, she was trying not to get lumped in with the local Republican establishment, because they were going to jail right and left.
And again, the myth about her turning down federal money. That 'if we want something built, we pay for it ourselves.' If that was written by an Alaskan, s/he was putting you on. We're allergic to paying for projects ourselves. Palin got raked over the coals by ALL sides for trying to turn down some of the stimulus money, and that was when she had the cover of her base, because she was 'standing up to Obama.' If she had actually been turning down federal money back when Senator Stevens was still the one bringing it here, you would never have heard of her, because her administration wouldn't have lasted a month.
As for Point Thomson, really all that's happened so far is posturing and griping. Again, the basic problem, that the oil companies bought these leases with the promise to develop them and then just sat on them like a piggy bank, is one the House and Senate Dems have been trying to draw attention to for years.
Likewise, the gas pipeline. We've been hearing about it for decades, and a lot of work had been done already towards getting one done. There was some substantial progress made towards one during her term, which was primarily because gas prices spiked. Now they're down again. Note that a gas pipeline is not currently being built.
And yes, we have a lot of renewable energy generation capacity online, but most of it is in Southeast, where several major hydropower projects were built in anticipation of heavy industrial mining operations that never materialized. So we have vast excess renewable capacity going spare down where most of the people aren't. Here where most of the state's population lives, we're powered mainly by natural gas. Palin did introduce a fairly forward-thinking plan, but she could afford to do that at the time - Alaska was swimming in extra cash because of the spike in the price of oil, which provides 90% of the state's revenue. Again, when the price went down, the ambition evaporated.
So yeah. I suppose I'm willing to believe the author of this piece is Alaskan - s/he's certainly dumb enough to be one of us. I say that with love. But it's true.

Lots of liberals are going to take an anything goes stance at her?
I for one do like her and depending upon who is running, I will give her the nod on election day.
I know I'm sick of all the manure in office today.
Washington needs to be purged and all of them need to be replaced so we can start over.
Barack Obama:
J.D., Magna Cum Laude, HARVARD LAW SCHOOL, 1991
President, Harvard Law Review (first African-American ever elected)
B.A., Political Science, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, 1983
Lecturer / Senior Lecturer 1992 to 2004
University of Chicago Law School
• Taught courses in General Law, Constitutional Law and Government Affairs.
For those of you who are constitutionalists ..this is about as educated as you can get. So dont fear for your guns and religion, they're safe.
Lets compare
Sarah Palin:
She received her bachelor's degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho and attended the following schools
* Hawaii Pacific University (Fall 1982),
* North Idaho College (Sp 1983&Fall 1983),
* University of Idaho (Fall 1984 - Sp1985),
* Matanuska-Susitna College (Fall 1985) and
* University of Idaho (Sp 1986, Fall 86
and Sp 1987.
Before this she graduated from Wasilla High School in Wasilla, Alaska.
Dan Quail in a dress. Enough said.
I never said he wasn't educated. You are correct, he has had the BEST of educations. But that alone does not qualify him to be president. The president should have some sort of experience in senior or corporate management. Where is his? NONE. Palin has been a mayor and a governor. Granted, it was a small town and the least populated state, but it is still management experience nonetheless. Education is good, but unfortunately there are a lot of educated idiots out there. If memory serves me correct, Hitler was very well educated as well. General Robert E. Lee was tops in his class at West Point; Ulysses S. Grant was middle of the pack, I believe. You know what happened with them. Point is, education is important, but its not everything, especially as president.
There are also a lot of idiots as Mayors and Governors so that does not necessarily qualify you as presidential material.
I do not agree with your assessment that education is not necessary. I do not want an uneducated doctor operating on me and I do not want an uneducated President in office.
You listed Obama's and Palin's academia; are you saying that Palin is uneducated? Granted, she may not be as educated as Obama, but she is still educated, and enough to be president. Actually, nowhere in the Constitution does it say you have to be a Harvard or Yale grad to be president. There is no academic requirement listed. I agree, education is important. BUT IT'S NOT THE ONLY THING! Experience is important. And he has none (till now). And we all will see how this works out.
Also, nowhere in this did I say I was a Palin fan (I'm not). This is my last response to this. If you don't understand what I'm saying by now, forget it. I'm done.
I'll purchase a copy if it makes the best seller list in a year. Unlike Palin's book making the list before it ever come out.
You don't know the fisherman or Palin but you are willing to take the word of any individual that fits your side. You are the type of people that don't know where the truth is. You will just repeat whatever you like. True or False!
Should I just make the assumption that you are a coward?
You have the right to say whatever you want, and your negative comments won't anger me. It would actually give me a little more respect for you because right now I see you only as a yellow coward with something to say as long as they don't know who you are.
Don't you realize that people learn things about themselves through negative comments equally as with positive ones? For example, I would have never known what I think about those two individuals and that I was going to set things right because I thought that way. Thank You for telling me.
However, you didn't mention a timeline. As long as you are handing out free wisdom and future events, please tell me when I can expect to set things right. Because, with every passing day it appears Obama and the liberal left is doing every possible thing to set things wrong.
PS –
I can see that you entertain the desire to be a seer or palm reader or something to that effect but have a fear of using your name. How about Madam or Mister “Dufus, the Non-seeing” ? Has a certain ring to it, don’t you think?
PS Again –
The correct spelling is "DeVane". (It's French origin, I think). I hope this helps out with your next derogatory comment spitting spree. You may not have the good sense to know what you’re saying, but at least you can say it and get the spelling correct.
Poo on You.
You all have s**t for brains. It's only racist depending on who says it. If Cosby would have said it you all would have uttered a hypocritical bit of laughter. The remark was not meant to be harmful; it was racial stab at comedy. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, there is as much racial comedy aimed against whites as there is aimed against blacks with equal enough amounts to go toward Arabs, Indians, and lets not forget Polish people. The only things keeping RACE an issue today is the politically correct idiots that use care what they say in public but are usually the first at throwing out racist comments in whispers.
So your goal is to perpetuate this supidity?>
What is "supidity"? Is that how a really stupid person spells stupidity?
< Ignorance breeds ignorance I suppose. He said it so why cant?.>
What are you talking about with "cant"? The angle or tilt of an object like a stem or do you mean a whining sing-song tone of voice?
.. Do us a favor s**t for brains, follow your friends of the bridge.
What are the "friends of the bridge" you mention? Little trolls?
