At its meeting Monday night, the Barnesville city council authorized the sale of city property for a wood pellet manufacturing firm that is eyeing an investment of approximately $50 million locally.

A young salesman stopped by a dairy farm to peddle his goods. As he peered across the street at the farmers very nearby house, he asked the old man "How do you stand this smell day in and day out all year long." The farmer didn't take long to reply. "It smells like money to me."

No need to worry. The IDA would never allow a business to locate here that puts off offensive odors.

What kind of offensive odors does a closed down textile mill emit?

Have you people ever been near a town with no jobs?

The quoted attitude above is why companies are locating in Griffin and McDonough and not here. Except of course for Chinese con men that the IDA seems fond of.

Better wake up Barnesville, you're in a competition for employers. Keep thinking of reasons for employers to not locate here and they won't.

Yes, Big city of Barnesville and Lamar County. Not small town. The population was 18,000-20,000 at the 2010 census. Green power plant, General Protecht, Gordon College nurse building, Upson Regional Hospital in Barnesville, Airport and Greenco. We have some more.
