"One larger district" where?
Here in Lamar county?
I read the print edition of the paper and can't glean exactly where "one larger district" is. Anyone?
I guess this means that my kids will be eating cold sandwiches for school lunches alot more often. It also means that the schools will be nickel & diming us even harder. Do they realize how hard it is on some families these days? At least once a week sometimes more often we are being hit up by the schools for money for this and money for that. I'm sorry that money from the Feds is drying up but quit asking me for what I don't have. I can barely keep food on the table as it is.
but Andy, pres-bo is going to get health care!whats wrong with you?cant you see that nothing else matters but getting health care for everybody? dont worry about the economy, the war,how we've turned this country into the laughing stock of the world.
Why do you act as if ignorance is a virtue? The senate has striped the bill of anything that was of any value to the poor and middle class. Now, it is just a financial bail out for the insurance companies. We should scrap this bill and start over. I am astonished so many, who presently can’t afford health care, are acting so incredibly pessimistic toward something that will obviously add much quality to their life. Fear obviously disengages the brain.
We had 11 million dollars for a first class football stadium and other entertainment and games. The new administrative building face lifts look good. Too bad we don't have money to pay for things related to education but we have to save money somewhere. We can't just keep spending for nonsense like teachers.
Was waiting on a stadium reference. Given the fact that the federal stimulus and the SPLOST have nothing in common, makes perfect sense to compare the two right?
That why? Obama took 12 months to mess up. Bush is not mess from past. Obama can not help and no help economy, healthcare and school. Economy worries. $10 trillion in 11 years. And 700 million jobs loss. Obama sign no more bailout. Obama pay that bill. Want to start World War 3 in December 2012? Will the end of the world? No global warming.
Comment #6, please learn to make a little more sense when you type. Did you not learn how to form sentences and thoughts in the Pike Co. School system?
The Splost Funds could have been used for other projects that tax money did go for. Some of the new projects were needed but not to the extreme that our board went to. Example did our Board of ED really need that expensive of a new deluxe building and new office furniture? The old football stadium could have been renovated for around 2 million or less and had a very 1st class facility. A track could have been added around the high school practice field. We didnt need a fine arts center. If one of the schools principals wants to use this facility, it has to come out of his or her budget---so was it really worth it?So back to my original point, use the splost money that could have been saved ,to take care of the maintance and other needs of the system that taxpayers money did go for. Yes i know splost has to be earmarked so simply earmark it for these needs. Its not the taxpayers responsibilty to pay for an entertainment center for the community and to fund the directors salary. And to the person that was wondering about their kids eating cold sandwhiches-- it should not be the school systems responsibility to feed your kids-it should be yours ,the parents. Its not the governments job to take care of us, although thats the kind of government yobama is building.
FYI #1- There is no charge for the schools to use the Fine Arts Center unless there is an outside producation coming in that is charging the system (ex. The Nutcracker)
FYI #2-The SPLOST cannot be used for salaries.
Scott Votaw is not paid at all by the school system, although he should be! He is a very valuable asset to Lamar County Schools and Lamar County in general. His salary comes only from split profits made off of productions and entertainment brought into the Fine Arts Center.
FYI #3 The BOE office is not an new building. It is an add-on/renovation. A bargain compared to building a brand new structure.
No help economy, healthcare and school. Obama can not help. Economy woes. $10 trillion. 700 million jobs loss. 800,000 people dead. World War 3 in December 2012? How will the end of the world? No global warming. Obama should die and goes to hell. Why?
Wrong , wrong, wrong, if a principal wants to havve an assembly there ,it does come from their budget.
I didnt say that salary could be paid from splost but other expenses can, that tax money did go for.
Votaw was hired before a single production ever took place, so i guess he was working for free.Maybe he got hired to help all the rich power players at the Methodist Church.
Yes the board building was already there but it was crazy to spend a dime on it. They could have met in the library like before. AAnd the furniture was fine but why not spend some more since joe taxpayer will be paying.
The fine arts center is an excuse , so some people can see a play, or a concert and let tax money pay for it. If all you fairyies want to see aplay so bad spend your own money and build one. To my knowledge the school system has not used the facility yet.
I cant believe the councel voted down the high priced brothel they were going to buy on Murphy av.. THey could have fixed it up real nice with tax payer money for Mr. Chen and all his chinamen freinds and payed one current city councel member to run it. Oh course it may still happen.
Wake up people and dont believe all the b.s. that is spread as our tax dollars are being wasted for the so called elite to enjoy.
I dont have a problem with tax money helping the children of our community---it is money well spent , but i do have a problem with wasted tax money and it going to help anyone but of the children of this county.

SPLOST Yo Mama said, "To my knowledge the school system has not used the facility yet."
The school system has used the Fine Arts Center for:
1. One Act Play Competiton
2. LCMS Lamar Idol
3. Kindergarten Concert
4. LCMS Band Concert
5. LCMS Chorus Concert
6. High School Band and Chorus Concerts
7. LCES Chorus Concert
8. LCMS/LCCHS Football Awards
and that is only since the beginning of November.
And no- it did not cost the school budgets anything!
I really wish "Yo-Mama" would get her facts straight before commenting and sounding like an idiot!
ask the pricipals why they havent had an assembly there yet. You board members that like to sit on that fine furniture remember you dont have to be just yes men and women for the super. Its ok to agree with him most of the time , its just amazing that yall always agree with him. Truby does have his good points but no one is 100% right all the time. Would love to see just one of you stand up on your own once. Its easy to spend other peoples money. And yes i do pay more taxes than any of you board members, in fact i pay probably more than all of you combined.Believe me im not bragging about that, if any of you board members want to switch tax bills i will gladly.Especially when my kids go to a private school here in this county. I know thats my choice and i dont mind doing my part for others chidren but lets get real, theres wasted tax dollars being spent. Wouldnt send my kids to any public school system where they are taught that they came from monkeys. Lamar co is no worse than any school system . In fact Lamar is better than most in my opinion because there some very good christian teachers, coaches, principals, and yes even board members and supers. I may not agree with Truby on everything but i do believe he is a good man. Hes just a good man that likes to spend too much.I know your hands are tied on alot of matters by federal mandates etc. but just try to show a little compassion for the tax payers of this county. If i was wrong on any of my other points , i give you an my sincerest apolgy now. Yo mama will retire now and i wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
No SPLOST. No school budgets. I hear Barnesville and Lamar County Commissioners and Lamar County board of education. New hospital and New Lamar County high school in 2012 or 2014.
I disagree with spending money on a new school. The building is still standing. However, they need to modernize the classrooms, upgrade the technology. And perhaps more professional development for teachers. And I would also appreciate it if next school year, my child will not have to wait a week or two to get her text books.
We really all need to be prepared because no matter who we elect, in 1 to 10 years the dollar will crash. We do not export enough to pay our bills overseas, and that will kill the value of our dollar. Oil prices and imported food and goods will go through the ceiling as the doller crashes.
Proof of this is right under the Christmas tree. Look where the gifts come from.
The school system is no wiser than the government that got us in this mess. They are part of the problem. Look how poorly they plan spending.

Maybe this will help you out and explain why SPLOST can't be used for just anything. And there are different SPLOST.
