Your posting is obviously well intended but at the same time naïve and lacks any trace of credibility. The Bible says many, many things and very little should be taken literally without considering who, what, when, where, how and why of what was written in the scriptures. Those who are brainwashed to accept a fatalistic mindset and use religious legalism or literalism to justify their dysfunctional ideology ”is the problem” in this problematic world. How the religious community can take something so precious as the beautiful message of love written in the Gospels and somehow use it to divide America is just pure insanity. The depressing thing is this foolish understanding does nothing to resolve anything and does nothing more than perpetuate an indifference which becomes an obstacle to all else in the world community.

The fanatical Muslims say the same thing about the Koran. You religious literalist are the crazies that are screwing up the world for everyone else. For each verse you read in the Bible you should spend at least a couple of hours researching its context then you won’t be so darn obstinate.

All theological belief systems have a psychological impact on the religious community. Some beliefs create psychosomatic boundaries which can inhibit social progression while other beliefs assist in social development. If it is believed to be good for you spiritually it must also be good for you psychologically for it to be a functional vs. dysfunctional understanding.
Most would rather choose a subjective approach of unquestionable acceptance of scripture because of a sense of security it brings rather than to think objectively and run the risk of taking exception. The fact is, it takes a great deal of hard work on one’s self in order to move closer to God. We must go places in the mind and heart that will bring pain and discomfort because there is no other way to heal from our personal challenges than face them. To take an unpopular stand when dealing with religious scripture is sometime a necessity step because you know in your heart and mind that this can not be true because in fact it separates you from your brother. The human heart is the final arbitrator of what is true or what really matters in life. I believe it is this connection what we Christians sometimes call the Holy Spirit. It is when the heart, mind and soul are in perfect resonance where then the truth becomes self evident and as a result will stand on its own merit.
