Despite multiple denials by all parties involved, rumors of Gordon College buying Summers Field from the City of Barnesville and starting a football program arose again last week

Let this stand as my official opposition to naming the new high school football stadium after Roger Brown as a group stated they would like to see done in a letter to the editor in this week's print edition. Mr. Brown was a good man and did a lot for the community and his name might be better suited to be used with whatever the city decides to do with old Summers Field. But I dont feel the new football stadium should be named after him or anyone else. I suggested to Dr. Truby that the venue should be called Alumni Stadium in honor of all of Lamar County High School's alumni and I stand by that. Thoughts???
I think that Gordon should buy the football field. Gordon should use the space for more parking for the students. The students almost get run over trying to cross the street.
Well Hmmmm...its only 20 degrees outside!!!! I suppose old, grumpy people just don't care about that. They just care about themselves. There is not enough parking at the school and the students already have to walk 15 minutes to the building. But heck whats an extra 2 miles to walk?
The underpass is mainly for the faculty and students that live in Guillebeau Hall. They are the only ones that can park in that lot. The rest of us students have to park on the Spencer Street lot or the College Drive lot, next to the sports complex. You try walking from that lot with your class materials, in the freezing cold or rain, up the hills, all the way to the IC building or to Smith and Russell. Not an easy hike! Granted, Summers Field is not much closer, but it would benefit the students.
I think the point of Anon's post was that the student's were in danger of getting run over by a car. A few feet is not worth the walk to the underpass?
I have never understood why Gordon spent all that money on an underground tunnel, specifically designed for the safe passage of it's students, while at the same time maintaining a walkway that leads right to the busy road.
Just wait till they decide to go off to a 4 year University and walk 15 to 20 minutes class and for the lot they park in costs them over a 100 dollars. I bet they will look back and go my walking 10 minutes to class and payin under 20 bucks for a paring space isnt that bad. Grow up, people have become so lazy. If they dont want to walk by a scooter or something but stop the belly aching.
If you go under that underground tunnel you still have to pass busy street. It seems that when people see kids walking across the street they drive faster!!!
You fools. Why can't you focus on more important things, like the failing economy or the new sheriff's shoddy administration?? Walking intelligently must take more effort than many Gordonites can provide.
And yet TB post #7 with all of that on your mind (failing economy and new sheriff) you still found time to post on here to so what does that say about you. Sounds like you are a fellow "fool" to.
The failing economy may well be but I still pay a lot of money to go to Gordon and would like to walk to class without having a stroke walking up the hill.
Wow last time i looked Gordon was pretty cheap compared to hmmm evey other 2 year college and 4 year university in GA. Must take a lot to please you. Oh well have a sensational saturday!!!
Hmmm seems you cant add or subtract either. Gordon's tuition and fees for Fall 2008 was $1,231 and West GA's tuition and fees for Fall 2008 was $2,158. The difference is 927 dollars. Hmmm you might want to buy a calculator.
