Rudy B. Knight, for years a fixture at the Lamar County Jail where he worked as a jailer and dispatcher, died early New Years Day at his home. He was commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also a Master Mason and past master of Pinta Lodge #88 F&AM here.

It's not hatred more than we've felt this unresolved closure for 14 years. This person got to go on and start another family and everything, our family got to hurt for our loss and her children suffered because of his actions.
Take it how you will, our family is glad to finally have this laid to rest.
You've probably never read anything about popcorn in the Bible either, but it does exist.
Find a better way to support that argument - this just makes our family look stupid.
Even dispatchers are given basic medical training for situations like this, the 911 operator could have given him instructions to try to keep her alive for a few minutes longer, until help arrived. He didn't. What's funny.. a suicide shot isn't usually in the chest. Which is where she was shot - the chest. Ever think of that? They also never found gun residue on her hands, feet, nothing. How can someone shoot themselves without residue being left? In the chest, come on - that alone makes me question what the Barnesville Sheriff really was doing there. Clearly someone had questions as the investigation continued - but the family never got resolution, until now.
You people deserve to feel nothing but pain at this time - this man was allowed to run free for years. He didn't deserve that extra time on this Earth. If anything, I hope he had a very painful death as he gave her. I hope that his wife got to experience a loss like no other, as every member of my family has for 14 years. With no justification as to why it happened, no apology from him, nothing. He never even really gave his condolences to my family.
He allowed this to happen to our family and you have the nerve to even consider mentioning how we should be considerate of his family? Who do you really think you are? This man put my family through so much misery it is unbelievable, and you want me to consider their feelings?! Why didn't he consider her children's feelings? Why didn't he consider her family at the time of her death?
And to answer the other speculations about the woman he killed - No, there were no drugs in her system. But BOTH were drinking that night. I have a recording of them arguing earlier that evening and him screaming things at her that was unbelievable in the background. In the recording, he does state that he was gonna kill her if she left. Funny, yet another piece of evidence overlooked I guess, right? Or maybe it was someone else screaming - you think? I mean, this great southern gentleman would never get drunk and yell at someone else, would he?
She planned to leave him the next day. My mother rented a car to go up and get her and her children, we had planned to leave at 6a, after my birthday, but I guess none of you would know about that would you? Rudy did nothing but abuse her and her kids in Georgia. And he got away with it. Even when we finally made it up there to get things together, and finally take her kids to Florida - you should have seen how he acted. So cold.. as if he knew that we knew what he had done. And he knew he would get away with it. There was no remorse in his eyes, nothing. I remember looking at him like it was yesterday - his eyes were just dark and empty.
You all have a twisted sense of this man. He can atone and behave nicely to all of you all he wanted.. the truth is he was a murderer, and if there is a God, I truly hope he holds this man accountable for his actions, since clearly Barnesville Sheriff failed to do so 14 years ago.
For his widow: I'm sorry you never truly knew your own husband. I know that finding all of the truth out years later must be hard, but keep in mind this: at least he didn't do to you what he did to her. You got to live, raise your kids, enjoy life. What did we get out of this? Justice.

Many people are not going to buy what you say because you are so full of hatred and bitterness. The investigation was done and he was cleared you are going to have to get over it.
You can say you got Justice out of this but you will find yourself bitter and empty and move on to someone or something else to hate because you are full of hatred.
Rudy was a great man who honestly cared for his friends and family. He had a heart of gold and would bend over backwards to help someone in need. May you rest in peace my friend...you will be missed.
I could honestly care less what you think of me, that's why I didn't bother posting my name - as it doesn't matter who I am or where I live. Bottom line, we all know what happened up in Barnesville in 1996, and if you knew him your whole life you would know how abusive he was to that woman. Did you condone that abuse? Having known him your whole life you had to know how violent he was, why didn't you do something to get him help? Don't be so quick to judge her and claim you knew what was going on if you can't answer those questions. Doesn't sound like you knew him in '96 when he was drinking a lot and beating on women.
Not everyone in this family is stupid white trash, so quit thinking it and more importantly, quit treating others like that. You have no idea who or what these anonymous people are, for all you know, we could be a lawyer or in medical school, anything. Because you want to defend a violent person's memory? How very cute. It's a good thing Rudy had someone to defend him, Chrystal sure didn't have that in her last moments.
Also, I couldn't care any less if anyone believed my story either - fact is, it's the truth, I know it and don't need to defend that truth to someone like you.
Lastly, to hate someone, you have to care about them. I didn't care about Rudy. My only concern was what he did to my family. Didn't hate him personally, I hated what he did. I don't believe that anyone should get away with all the violence that he participated in.
This whole thing goes to show every one: if you're gonna commit a crime, make sure you're part of the good ol' boys - otherwise you'll be held accountable. Oh I forgot to mention, if you're going to beat your wife, do it in Barnesville. Apparently the police department looks the other way on that too.
Don't try to show me up Kathryn, you will lose. I will fight you tooth and nail with nothing but the facts and ultimately will show that you truly are making yourself a non-credible source, for having defended such a person. I would quit while I was ahead if I were you.

I am proud to say that I was related to Rudy and he did some wonderful things for my family when I was younger and He was always there when he was needed. You honestly know nothing about the man with the exception of your own assumptions. and you know what they say when you assume something. You make a WHAT out of yourself?! You come on here to bash me because you know what I say is true. There is no doubt that Elvis, Renea, Janice, Angel, and a few others have taken money from my mother repeatedly, always promising to pay her back - yet never coming up with the cash. Yet, she's the sorry one?
Even last week you all had the nerve to call and yet again, ask for money. Claiming there was no money for food. Guess what? I'm the one that told her that she should never give another cent to you people. I also told her that if you have no money for food, diapers, or other necessities, that you should all just suffer. That's right, I forgot that your food stamps just renewed, must be why you're feeling cocky.
As for Grandma - Those "ugly" clothes that she was wearing, are from her church - you know that religion she participated in most of her life? The Mormons? For some odd reason, you seem to have forgotten that your grandmother was LDS. Your grandmother was given a proper LDS funeral, and given her appropriate dress for the after life. And my mother only paid because you people wouldn't do anything besides try to get your grandmother cremated because a "funeral just was too expensive."
What's funny is a funeral was too expensive, but Joyce had just gotten a lot of money from her husband dying, and refused to pay even $1 to bury that woman - which is why Elvis came to my mother from the beginning. Elvis left a note on my mother's fence asking her to call him and help pay for the funeral, even he didn't want to pay for anything. Chris, Nenia, John, didn't pay anything - because they "didn't have the money". Nor did any of your grandmothers other kids or grandkids.
The only reason your grandmother was in a nursing home is because you people wouldn't take care of her the way she had taken care of you and your kids over the years. My mother hated that woman, and still offered to let her stay at her home rather than a nursing home, yet all of those that your grandmother cared for and raised. turned their backs on her at her time of need. Poor pathetic people you must be to try to put other people down at your own pleasure.
Thank God my mother had enough sense to keep me away from you all. Getting away from that trashy side of the family has allowed me to get to know my family that is just unbelievably classy and intelligent. You know, the side that won't acknowledge that you guys even exist? The ones that have real family gatherings, without the drugs or arguments? Ah, that's right, you wouldn't know about those because just like Uncle Larry, they choose not to associate with trash also. In fact, they told me at our annual Christmas soirée in December that they can't even believe that Grandma had such a bunch of trashy children running around! We all had a great laugh at that.
