UPDATE: Nearly 24 hours after The Herald-Gazette and The Pike County Journal-Reporter first broke this story, the Georgia Department of Corrections has finally confirmed that Leeland Mark Braley hung himself in his cell on death row. He was found dead at 5:12 a.m. New Years Day.
Our sister publication, The Journal-Reporter, learned Friday via anonymous sources at the Georgia Diagnostic Prison in Butts County that convicted killer Leeland Mark Braley committed suicide by hanging himself on death row overnight Dec. 31 - Jan. 1.
Convicted killer Leeland Mark Braley.

I say this, knowing what he did to that poor girl.
Good riddance, you P.O.S.
Braley was spending his time on Death Row, alone with no visitors. Living alone but surrounded by wickedness.
Another holiday comes and goes and he has no friends, no family who will come visit him or send a letter. He is consumed with loneliness and self-pity and realizes the only way out is either the death chamber or suicide.
As much justice as can possibly be served when a murder is committed has to some measure been served.
We should not be bloodthirsty ourselves and of course we shouldn't excuse what Braley has done.
We can only hope and pray for peace for Ms. Hammond's loved ones.
I know for a fact that Tim Pruitt did not hang himself last month. Jerry Jones, another inmated obliged him.
If God forgives, we must, too. The taking of Braley's life will not console Kelli's family, nor will it bring Kelli back. It only devastates Braley's family that much more, as if they haven't been through enough already.
You just don't understand life or God's way yet. May you find more forgiveness than you appear to give.
To the parents of Kelli Hammond and Leeland Braley, my heart goes out to all of you. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond I imagine that you may be quite pleased with the outcome of Braley’s death but please do not disrespect the Hammond’s, they did lose a child and are suffering the same loss as you did when you lost Kelli. Mr. and Mrs. Braley although having Leland leave this earth the way he did may bring you untold sadness, I believe that he is in a better place. Regardless of the “ANONYMUS” posters on this site, if Braley asked God for forgiveness and was truly remorseful for his actions, then he is probably apologizing to Kelli about now. I apologize for the disrespectful, self indulgent, narcissistic people in the world that never think past their own nose and have not thought for one moment that Leeland Mark Braley has a mom and a dad and possibly brothers, sisters, and children that love and miss him, may he rest in peace.
Put your Bible down and think about what the Hammond have been going through for the last almost 12 years. If you want to quote the Bible you are forgetting what is said in Isaiah 16:5 Justice should be SWIFT. I'll bet the Hammonds hated waiting 12 years and did not feel like it was swift.
And as far as anonymity I see you are doing alot about placing YOUR Name on this Blog! People like you make me sick PR
Killing yourself is not unforgivable.
Sometimes what a person believes in is evident by looking at his bank account and seeing where the money goes.
If you believe in evolution, dont be so arrogant to thing that we are the most evolved of the species. We do not know what is beyond this earth/universe.
I went many years thinking I was atheist then agnostic. But I tell you now...Pride cometh before the fall. Our ego is not god.
Either themselves, science, money...etc.
You cant believe in "nothing". Your belief system is based on something.
I am a very successful business man. Have a lovely wife with three beautiful children. My children are taken to church so they can choose to what they want to believe. They are also exposed to the many other religions out there that christians refuse to even acknowledge exist. Some people need religion just to "get by". If my children are one of those types of people then I'm not going to stand in the way of that. Currently it seems religion now is used as a crutch so that people think something is better for them just on the other side.
You live, you die. Thats it. You have 50-90 years on this earth, live it. In the bigger spec of things our individual time on this earth is minuscule. If the earth lifespan was displayed on a clock, humans life would only be 6 minutes. Thats 4.4 billion years that the earth made it along fine without religion. I'll take my chances.
I am spiritual but not religious. I love Jesus and his teachings, but some of his "followers" frighten me. I believe what he taught is not that different from other spiritual traditions and there seems to be an common message and theme between them. Call it God, the Source, Oneness or whatever you like.
