What we have done is give up all of our manufacturing base. When we stop building things we can sell with American companies, we ship almost all of the profits overseas. A large portion of labor we do in the USA goes to Mexicans who pay no tax and drain our services, and the bulk of that money goes to Mexico.
Most of our energy comes from from the Arabs, and most of the money for the energy we use goes overseas.
The steel mills are gone, the easy oil is all used up (don't let the nuts tell you it is a conspiracy, we are totally dry of easy cheap oil), and even the big processors of oil like Standard Oil were bought up by foreign owners. The textile mills all moved to Mexico and other places with NAFTA, and we still have the illegal wetbacks pouring in that NAFTA was supposed to cure.
We allowed ourselves to be put into this position because we stopped rational thinking. People can sell us down the river and we are too dumb to know we are being conned.
We can spend all the trillions we want and none of it will fix the core problem. We no longer do any work or produce much for the rest of the world, and so we no longer can make any money from them. All the cash is flowing out and has been for 30 years at a faster and faster rate.
We can cut taxes to zero and it won't help. We can hand ourselves a giant credit card and it won't help.
We can't even trust Americans to make our own food safe and the SEC can't even monitor outright fraud when they are warned well in advance. We have been working on change for 40 years, and it is finally here.
Obama isn't going to fix it and neither would McCain. It is impossible to sustain wealth by spending. Only an idiot would think that works.
