I live on brook road. There have been 2 other automobile accidents on this road within 2 weeks. One involved a 18 year old losing control of his truck and crashing through my neighbors fence, coming through the side fence, side swiping a telephone pole in my yard and trying to escape crashing through the front of my fence. I am thankful my dogs were not in the front yard or they would not be here today. This also involved alcohol. Lamar county sheriff's dept. was quick to respond after I called and was able to arrest the suspect. A week before that another accident happened across the road from my home. This vehicle also was going too fast and missed the curve and hit a telephone pole. the telephone pole had to be replaced. I feel alot of the problem comes from people moving in this area. On this road alone, I know at least there are 10 new homes that have been built within the last 3 years. The majority of the people have moved in from other counties, and from what I have observed with the cars speeding down this road, I believe the teenagers along with adults think they are still living in the city. There is lots of revenue to be made on this road for speeding violations and drinking and driving. Country roads are alot different from city roads, plus we don't have the street lights in the country. I do hope something is done soon before we have someone killed due to irresponsible behavior behind the wheel. The man that survived this crash should be dead. He needs to think the Almighty above for sparing his life.
yeah...God forbid any growth in Lamar County. It only brings in more revenue and opportunities for the members of the community. We definitely don't want the county to progress!
The man in the car accident is a very good man!You have no right to say whether some one has the right to die! I do not believe any christian person would speak in this way!
I agree with you on that. I cannot beleive that someone walked away from this crash. If he didn't beleive in God before the wreck I sure would get on my knees and do some praying and figure out why my life was spared. If he's not a Christian I hope he becomes one now and if he is I hope he gets the Big picture. God isn't finished with him yet.
I live on Brook Road also and I know that it is just a matter of time before a fatality occurs in that curve due to speeding drivers. From the looks of that mangled wreck, I am amazed that it wasn't this driver. I hope he realizes he got a second chance to straighten up.
We do have to many speeders on our county roads and what Colleen was trying to say was, there are people moving in here from out of town that are not familiar with these roads and aren't aware of our bad some of these curves are. Two of these accidents they come out of the curve they are headed straight into her yard. She suffered a lot of damage to her fence as well as her neighbors when one it came through one yard tore the fence up went through the fence between the two and came back out the front of her yard. It was a young guy that had just moved here didn't know the road and was drinking. We just want some people to slow down and live. Of the three accidents she spoke of I 'm not sure that but I think they were all fairly new residents of Lamar County.
Please slow down and live.
From what I know there was no alcohol involved! Newspapers should not print accusations such as this without substantial evidence. By the paper printing these false accusations, it creates a forum for comments to be made out of ignorance of the actual facts. Yes, this man does believe in God, and along with his family, is EXTREMELY grateful that he is alive. I suggest before commenting and judging on the next story, you should research the facts prior to.
Alcohol was said to be involved in a statement made by officer Maynard of The GSP. The newspaper did nothing wrong and reported what they were told. If alcohol was not a factor in the crash it will come out. Alcohol is presummed to be involved in any crash where there is evidence of old beer cans or bottles that could have been old. You pressume this, then try to disprove it with B.A.C measurements or blood tests. Looking at the wreck photos he should be extremely grateful he is alive. And since you seem to know so much how bout details of why the jaws of life had to be used? Was he just not paying attention? Did he fall asleep at the wheel? Brooks road is not that bad for people that have driven on it a few times and know whats going on. Why in the hell would you drive that fast on a country road anyways? Oh by the way, A newspaper can print anything they want to. It's in the 5th amendment that allows them that freedom of speech.
From what you know 'Anonymous'? I am assuming you have direct contact with the police, sheriff's office, and highway patrol as well as access to the official incident report?
We do not print accusation, thank you. We print only the information given to us by proper authorities.
We are not questioning his belief in God nor with his gratefulness. I am sure he is thankful to have survived. However, it is the integrity and oath of our newspaper to report the facts of the situation.
I do not have a problem with people moving into the area. It would be great if they would get used to the roads and slow down especially around curves.. There's nothing like being on a wide open road in the country, but within seconds it can curve. I am originally from savannah. There was a road in savannah that was named "dead man's curve" on LaRoache Ave. Many people lost their lives on that road once they lost control going into the curve. I don't want that to happen here. Please slow down and respect these country roads or they will not respect you..
I haven't had a chance to read through everyone's comments, but just to let you all know, Sam is my brother. He's a wonderful brother, father, husband, and son. I love Sam very much and wouldn't trade him for the world. No one knows exactly what happened that day because he can't remember, but before anyone judges my brother, I want you to know what a wonderful person that he is. He's served our great country in the Army and has worked very hard for everything that he has. He loves his daughter and his neices with all of his heart. In addition, my family has been reading this webpage and your comments, and have watched Andrew's video. Thankfully, Andrew's video turned off before showing his picture in that car. As a side note, I'm appalled that the medical personel allowed bystanders that close to his vehicle. Although I am perfectly aware of our first amendment rights, I believe that our first priority should be to treat every one of God's children with the same respect that you would want someone to treat your own mother, or father, or brother, or son. Sam is extremely lucky to be alive, and please try to remember that Sam is more than just a big story in a small town. He's actually a person with a Mom, a wife, a daughter, brothers, and sisters.
I certainly am thankful that your brother is doing well. That accident was a horrific site and to know that he is still alive and able to be with his family again is great news.
Just to set the record straight, I didn't arrive on the scene until after your brother had been removed by medical personnel and taken to the hospital. The road was closed while police and EMS secured the scene. My video only shows the residual work needed to be done to remove the vehicle from that spot. Best I could tell it was untowable as was and needed to be taken away in pieces.
I'm glad to hear that Sam wasn't in that car when the video was being taken. I was holding my breath during the footage b/c I thought that they were going to show his picture. And thank you for your kind words, Andrew. We're just praying for his full recovery.
I want to thank you for all the ways your are improving Barnesville News! The paper was great before, but you have really stepped it up! great coverage!

All jokes aside, he was definitely blessed to survive that disaster.
