Why is the news not reporting the fact that this woman did not complete her required training? I could care less about all this other stuff but I do have a problem with that. Sounds to me like she is trying to cover the fact that she was wrong! I have a feeling we are not hearing the whole story

Does this require a class or just a certification test? If a requirement exists such as a certification test or class, it is up to the county to schedule and pay for the test, as well as pay any transportation and lodging cost associated with the test and or training class. I'm afraid to say that if the county has a requirement and did nothing to satisfy the requirement, the county doesn’t have a leg to stand on. On the other hand, if the county did make the effort to get her certification and she failed to comply, she doesn't have a leg to stand on. So the question is; which is it?

All assessors are required to complete 40 hours of classwork for the first 3 years. The courses range from basic assessing to appeals, etc. Each assessor has one year to complete the required course. The first year the assessor should complete that course in a timely manner, otherwise they wouldn't have a clue what is being discussed. The board I was on did not allow an assessor a vote until the first course was finished. If you complete a course in March an assessor would have until the following March to complete the next course. After the first three years 2-1/2 days a year are required. All of the courses are held in Macon as well as other areas of the state. Our assessors took courses in Macon. We were reimbursed for lunch and gas. For sitting on the board we were paid $25 a month for meetings; the meetings may last an hour or several hours. Hope this sheds some light on the responsibilities of the assessors in the way of education. It is a thankless job. I don't condone any assessor not completing courses required by the state. If our board could keep current on education, any board can stay current.

I meant to say "basic appraising"...not basic assessing.

How can you appeal something that was already illegally done by removing her from the board? Was she notified of a hearing in front of a judge with her present to remove her?Hmmmm.

This is the same old stuff that has always gone on with our commisioners. Nothing ever changes. Regardless of whether she completed training, Jay Mathews and Nancy Thrash had her removed illegally. The county attorney sat by like he always has in the past and let comissioners do something illegal. Now they want to have three on the board of assessors instead of five which will mean people who should not infuence them will have less problems influencing them. Thrash and Mathews should resign.

That it what is wrong with this County - people who believe it's ok that you didn't do your training, even if it is just a "DOR Requirement" it is still enforceable. Why do you think the "DOR" made a provision that the member could be dismissed if they did not complete it? I think Thrash did the right thing and the people who are complaining are in that same old group who do not want to see change - Brown voters in other words he he

DOR makes no provisions for a BOA member to be dismissed. It takes a Judge to make that decision. READ THE LAWS!!!!!!!

You are talking to someone who has checked into it- my Aunt works for the DOR and she said that is absolutely something that is required and it is made very clear in the classes that you have to do your training. So, you can try to pull that BS on someone else!!
