Marvin Alspach had a dream weekend June 13-15 at Michigan International Speedway as the longtime race fan announced the big words at Saturday's Michigan 200 NASCAR truck race.
That was, indeed, Lamar County's own Alspach, serving as grand marshal, announcing at the start of the race: "Gentlemen, start your engines!"

Henry Murphy could be called the parent who stayed. After nearly 30 years with the county parks and recreation department, he has been named the new assistant director.
This fall, the fans of the Lamar County HS Trojans will get to cheer on their team at the brand new Trojan football stadium. To enhance the experience, a jumbo video screen has been added to the end zone scoreboard.

Lamar County High tennis coach David Strobel will be hosting a tennis camp for aspiring players aged 6-9 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and aged 10-13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both camps take place from July 20-24.
The LCCHS Trojan football staff, in conjunction with the Trojan Gridiron Club, will host a youth football camp July 13-16 at the high school practice fields.

Several Lamar countians took part in a sprint triathlon June 21 at Callaway Gardens. There were a total of 1,200 participants in the event, which included a two mile run, quarter mile swim and 10 mile bike ride. [Full Story »]
