he Barnesville-Lamar Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia (CFCG) that offers a semi-annual responsive grant program for 15 Central Georgia counties. CFCG received 30 applications from Central Georgia nonprofits during its Fall 2009 Responsive Grant Program. One application was from Ms. Angela Mack for the Lamar County Activity Center in Barnesville. The Activity Center’s mission is to “provide educational and enrichment activities that promote healthy life-style development for the youth and families they serve.”

Ferris: Water authority faces tough 2010

The Lamar County water authority has become another victim of the failing economy. It will have to pull $200,000 out of reserve to pay its Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority loan this year.

"We made it through 2009 but I don't think 2010 is going to be so kind," said general manager Amberly Ferris at the Jan. 26 meeting.

The Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications through February 19, 2010 to fill an available part time Administrative Assistant position.

High School Seniors (Public, Private or Home School) or College Students

Walter Harrison Scholarship – Must live in a household served by SRE. Statewide scholarship competition. Nine scholarships worth $1000 each will be awarded in the spring. Application Deadline is Feb. 1, 2010.
