The Lamar County Trojans will host Rabun County in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state basketball tournament tonight.

Lamar County has never hosted a state tourney game and has not been seeded this high entering a tourney since the 1970s and the reign of Coach Oscar Wimberly.

The Diamond Trojans got their second win of the season in as many starts.

They took down the Region 4-AA Monticello Hurricanes, 11-1, in a 5-inning game ended short due to the GHSA 10-run rule. [Full Story »]

Lamar County High School will host Griffin High to open the annual Trojan Cup soccer tournament at Trojan Field today. The girls kick off the tournament at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys match at 7:30 p.m. [Full Story »]

A capacity crowd turned out Feb. 15 at the middle school cafeteria for the annual Meet The Trojans preseason banquet.

Coaches, players, parents and guests were treated to a menu of chili, chili dogs, baked potatoes and all the trimmings.

The Lamar County Trojans lost to the Callaway Cavaliers 73-61 Monday night in Roberta in the Region 5AA title game.

Lamar led by three as the first half waned but Camden Foster was called for a foul and then hit with a phantom technical foul for "staring down" the man he fouled. Callaway hit four free throws to take a lead it never surrendered.

The Diamond Trojans will host the Howard High Huskies from Macon at Aldora Field at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, to start the regular season.

Coach Greg Williams and the Trojan Dugout Club will formally introduce the varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams Monday, Feb. 15, in the middle school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. at the annual Meet the Trojans banquet.

Trying to better their performance last week when they won back-to-back games for the first time this season, the Lamar County Lady Trojans duplicated the feat. They beat Heard County and Callaway on consecutive nights.

Macon County proved to be too much and derailed the team's hopes of winning three in a row.

The Lamar County Trojans are heading down the home stretch fresh off three consecutive Region 5AA victories against Heard County, Callaway and Macon County.

At home against Heard, the Trojans led by 20 points only to go cold in the fourth quarter and fall behind by as many as five points before rallying on a three point shot by Damian Battle with 2.3 seconds left.
