With coaches from their probable state tournament first round opponent, North Oconee, looking on, the Diamond Trojans certainly didn't do anything to worry the Titan scouts as they committed five errors and collected only three base hits in a 6-1 loss to Howard in Macon Thursday.

Senior reserve Joey Vaughn hit a game ending RBI triple in the fifth inning to invoke the mercy rule and give Lamar County a 10-0 win over Jordan in game one of a Senior Night doubleheader Tuesday at Aldora Field.

Lamar County upped its season soccer record to 7-8-1 with a 7-0 win over Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough Friday night. The Lady Trojans were blanked 11-0 in their match with the Lady Chargers and fall to 8-7-1.

Both teams travel to Jackson for matches today before closing out the season at Locust Grove on Wednesday. [Full Story »]

The Gordon College softball team kept their hopes for postseason play with a doubleheader sweep of South Georgia in Douglas Saturday. The Lady Highlanders, whose roster has been depleted by season ending injuries to several players, clawed past the Lady Tigers 2-1 in game one before exploding for a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. The Highlanders managed just one win in their conference series with Georgia Perimeter here winning 18-8 Friday night before falling to the Jaguars in both games of a Saturday twinbill, 8-2 and 6-4. Former Gordon College baseball coach Hank Small died last month after a fall in his Griffin home. He was 56.

Small was a legendary high school slugger in Atlanta and starred at the University of South Carolina. He was also quite a character. [Full Story »]
