Who are your tornado heroes?

I was met by a surreal scene at 1:30 a.m. last Thursday when I pulled up to the Hot Shot store or what was left of it.
The usually brightly lit facility was dark. It was raining. The only light came from flashlights and police and emergency strobes. I marveled at the shredded store and the smashed church across the street. I had only a small flashlight but I could see enough to know things were bad. [Full Story »]

Christopher Royce Turner, 23, Zebulon, DUI less safe and weaving over roadway;
Woodrow Wilson, 44, Milner, child support;
Joshua Lee Beavers, 30, Barnesville, arrested for another agency;
Hollie Elaine Wilkins, 37, Milner, child support;
Simeon Hull Oliver, 35, Macon, distribution of a controlled substance without an order form or fictitious registration;
Robert Young Duke Jr., 39, Covington, theft by taking.
Deputies responded to 97 calls, the Barnesville police department responded to 35, the Lamar County fire department to 35, Barnesville fire department to three calls and Mid Georgia Ambulance service to 49. Advertisement for Bids
Sealed Bids: Sealed bids for construction of the FY 2010 CDBG Water System Improvements for the Lamar County Water & Sewer Authority will be received until Thursday, May 26 , 2011 at 11:00 am at the Lamar County Water & Sewer Authority’s Office at 105 Country Kitchen Road, Barnesville, GA 30204, at which time and place they will be publicly opened and read. No bid may be withdrawn after the closing time for the receipt of bids for a period of sixty (60) days.
Contractor License: Any Contractor performing the proposed work must be a licensed utility contractor by the State of Georgia. License numbers are requested to be written on the face of the bid envelope, but not required. See Instructions to Bidders for additional bidding requirements.
Work To Be Done: The Work To Be Done shall consist of furnishing all products and performing all labor necessary to construct the FY 2010 CDBG Water System Improvements as shown on the construction plans. More specifically, the work shall consist of ±11,000 L.F. of 6” water main, 1,700 L.F. of 8” water main, ±80 water services, and all other appurtenances necessary to complete the project in accordance with the specifications and construction drawings. The work will be awarded in one (1) contract with a contract time of 120 consecutive calendar days.

Permits: All necessary permits for this project are expected to be acquired prior to construction, with one exception. Land/Easement Acquisition: All land acquisition is expected to be completed prior to construction. Funding: Any Contract or Contracts awarded under this Advertisement for Bids are expected to be Lamar County BOC & LCWSA FY 2010 CDBG Water System Improvements C&S Project No.: L1200.006 March 2011, AFB-1 funded by grants by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs – Community Development Block Grant Program.
