After four straight road games, the Lady Trojan softball team is ready for some home cooking. They will get some this week, hosting a pair of region games as they play Greene County today and Morgan County Thursday. About 35 parents of children in Lamar County recreation programs decided last week to push for more help with concession stands for the upcoming sports season.
Retiring president Brad Bryan told the group concession sales generate as much as $10,000 a year, designated solely to help the county recreation department offer team play in football, baseball, soccer and basketball. Members of the association vote on requests from the department and disburse the funds, he said. [Full Story »]

The Lamar County Lady Trojans will host Howard of Macon for their home opener Monday afternoon at the Trojan Athletic Complex softball field of the campus of Lamar County Middle School.
 
Game one of the double header starts at 4:30 p.m. with game two to follow at 6:30 p.m.
 
Lamar County is 1-4 after winning one of five games at the ninth annual Spalding Diamond Classic Invitational tournament over the weekend in Griffin. The Lady Trojans win came over AAA Lumpkin County 5-3.

Although no score was kept, fans got a chance to see what to expect out of the 2011 Trojans as Lamar County closed out its week-long football camp with the annual Soap Game intra squad scrimmage Friday night at Trojan Field. What they saw was speed to burn out of the new wing-T offense and a young but very aggressive defense. [Full Story »]

The Lamar County Lady Trojan softball team opens play this week, traveling to Forsyth Thursday for a pre-season scrimmage with Mary Persons at 5 p.m. and taking part in the annual Diamond Classic Invitational Tournament this weekend at Volunteer Park in Griffin.
The Lady Trojans will play Georgia Military Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Thomson Friday at 7:30 p.m. Lamar's Saturday opponents will be determined by the outcome of Friday's games.
Returning eight of nine starters from last year's team that finished 12-14, the Lady Trojans are led by seniors Jesse McDaniel, Tyler Burnette (pictured) and Tori Long.

Barnesville's Reid Ramsey and his fighting bucks display will be one of the featured attractions at this weekend's Georgia Wildlife Federation Buckarama in Atlanta.
 
Ramsey will show off his battling bucks and tell the tale of how he came upon and took them down while hunting in Maryland last fall.
 
This weekend's show is at the Atlanta Expo Center Friday 1-7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. -5 p.m. Admission is $8 regular, seniors 65 and over and kids age 6-12 $5 and children 5 and under get in for free.
 
Ramsey will also appear with his display at the Buckarama at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry Aug. 19-21. [Full Story »]
