Although it was not the outcome they had hoped for, the Lamar County Trojans left every ounce of themselves on the natural turf floor in Thunder Alley, coming up just short in a heart stopping 35-33 loss in four overtimes to Appling County in the GHSA Class AA state quarterfinals Friday night. Lawrence Austin was stopped just short of the goal line on a mandatory two-point PAT attempt in the fourth overtime and the Lamar County Trojans dropped a heartbreaking 35-33 decision to the Appling County Pirates at Trojan Field.

After the game, head coach Jason Strickland told his team he had never been prouder of them. "Nothing I can say will make this feel any better," he said. Then, pointing to the standing room only crowd, he added, "You changed that forever. I love you!"

The undefeated Lamar County Trojans (12-) defeated the Blessed Trinity Titans 28-14 Friday in the Sweet 16 round of the Class AA football playoffs. The Trojans advance to the Elite 8 and will host Appling County next week. Appling defeated North Oconee 26-13 Friday night.

Gordon College men’s basketball team beat Southern Crescent Tech, Marion Military and Atlanta Sports Academy in three of their first four games to open the 2011-12 season. The Highlanders lost to perennial junior college powerhouse Tallahassee Community College for their only loss thus far. [Full Story »] 

The Lamar County Trojans ripped the Bleckley County Royals 35-14 in the first round of the Class AA football playoffs Friday night at Trojan Field. Lamar will host Blessed Trinity in the second round Nov. 18 at Trojan Field. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Titans (7-4) defeated Heard County 44-19 Friday night.

The Lamar County Trojans routed the Monticello Hurricanes 48-6 Friday night at Trojan Field. Lamar notched the first 10-win regular season in school history and claimed the Region 4AA crown. They will host Bleckley County November 11 in the first round of the state playoffs. Lamar beat Bleckley 27-21 in Cochran in the first game of the season.

Drenched in Powerade from a celebratory, postgame bath, Trojan head coach Jason Strickland told his team, "You have changed this community!".
