Austins to play in Georgia Junior Bowl Monday

Lamar's twin brother football standouts Lance and Lawrence Austin are in Atlanta and will participate in the risingseniors.com Georgia Junior Bowl to be played Monday at Grady Stadium.

UPDATE: This won't come as a surprise to Lamar fans but the Austin twins are turning heads at the risingseniors.com camp leading up to the game, drawing rave reviews from coaches. [Full Story »]

One day after playing in Lamar County's heartbreaking 21-14 football loss to Calhoun in the GHSA Class AA state semi-finals Quay Searcy, Jeremy Fletcher and Nick Harden combined for 15 points in limited action to help the Trojan basketball team to a 65-59 season opening win over Mary Persons. The Lamar County Trojans shut out top ranked Calhoun in the 2nd half but could not make enough plays and fell 21-14 in the Class AA state playoffs. Lamar had a shot at the end but a last pass was intercepted in the endzone.

The game may have set a record for the most Lamar fans to ever attend a road contest. Afterwards, almost every Calhoun fan congratulated Lamar on their effort - the best turned in against the Yellow Jackets in two years.

From school superintendent Dr. Bill Truby:

Trojan Family,

This is an exciting time for us. This is the first time in history that our Trojan football team has made it to the semifinals. GO Trojans!!!

In celebrating an awesome year for our Trojan football team, we would like to send them off with their spirits uplifted. Please come and join us in a celebration parade this Friday before the Trojan team departs.

We will start our Pep Rally and parade at noon in front of the high school on Trojan way. From there we will go across the street to the middle school. We will turn into the middle school and proceed to the back of the primary school. After leaving the primary school, we will turn left on Victory Lane and head to the elementary school. We will end the parade in front of the elementary school. Sounds like fun, it will be!!! GO Trojans
