Lamar County seniors can stop calling the tax assessor’s office about the newly proposed school tax exemption the board of education put into motion. It is still in the study stages and the earliest it can take effect is 2014. [Full Story »] 

The Lamar County Trojans shut out top ranked Calhoun in the 2nd half but could not make enough plays and fell 21-14 in the Class AA state playoffs. Lamar had a shot at the end but a last pass was intercepted in the endzone.

The game may have set a record for the most Lamar fans to ever attend a road contest. Afterwards, almost every Calhoun fan congratulated Lamar on their effort - the best turned in against the Yellow Jackets in two years.

Trojan Family,

This is an exciting time for us. This is the first time in history that our Trojan football team has made it to the semifinals. GO Trojans!!!

In celebrating an awesome year for our Trojan football team, we would like to send them off with their spirits uplifted. Please come and join us in a celebration parade this Friday before the Trojan team departs.

We will start our Pep Rally and parade at noon in front of the high school on Trojan way. From there we will go across the street to the middle school. We will turn into the middle school and proceed to the back of the primary school. After leaving the primary school, we will turn left on Victory Lane and head to the elementary school. We will end the parade in front of the elementary school. Sounds like fun, it will be!!! GO Trojans

Friday night's Lamar-Calhoun game will be televised.

Lamar County travels to Calhoun to take on the defending state champion Yellow Jackets in the semifinal round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs this week. The Trojans are 12-0-1 and the Jackets, Region 7-AA champions, are 13-0. [Full Story »]

Barnesville’s own sea captain Kelly Garrett has been on plenty of dives while recovering countless items from the bottom of the ocean – sometimes even sand from the bottom of the ocean itself. He has a few shark encounters under his belt, too. A thousand sharks at one time makes for a tall sailor’s tale, but Aqua Quest International, the marine archaeological recovery company for which Garrett works, decided to get the footage to prove what the crew saw.
