Community, coworkers rally behind Shirley Pritts

The Lamar County sheriff’s office has mounted a multi-pronged effort to help correctional officer Shirley Pritts who is waging a tough battle with stage three breast cancer.

Pritts said she was diagnosed with cancer last August and the extensiveness of the disease was confirmed in September. She underwent a bilateral mastectomy and 22 of the 25 lymph nodes removed at that time were cancerous. [Full Story »]

Mystery chopper not law enforcement related

The Herald-Gazette has gotten multiple calls regarding a helicopter hovering over Redbud Drive and Country Kitchen Road Friday night. Preliminary contact with law enforcement indicates the chopper is not airborne on behalf of either the Lamar sheriff's office or the Barnesville Police Department.

UPDATE: Investigator Al Moltrum of the BPD says officers worked a domestic dispute on Redbud Dr. but it had nothing to do with the chopper. So...

Raleigh Henry, president and CEO of Southern Rivers Energy, retired January 31 after nearly 37 years with the local electric cooperative.
