Vickie Brownlee was never far from walking a long hard road during her lifetime. After many difficulties, she is fulfilling her dream of opening a day care center.
Brownlee, one of the pioneers of Lamar County’s first pre-K program in the old Milner school, has been with the Lamar County school system for 15 years, mostly as a paraprofessional with both Lamar elementary and middle schools. She says she always loved being with children.

Most civilians think a “leg wound” in combat means the trooper will be okay -- but often that means a long, painful recovery and doubt whether the leg will be amputated or whether walking again can be accomplished.
Barnesville’s William Parker sustained such a wound on Thanksgiving Day 1967, in the central highlands of Vietnam near Chu Lai. Drafted into the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry American Division just the year before, Parker was one of the soldiers in a “fierce firefight” on a search-and destroy mission.

Mr. Taylor Dalton Davis, age 18 of Barnesville, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Scottish Rites Hospital.
Taylor was born in Tacoma, Washington on July 26, 1994. He was a 2012 Honor Graduate of Lamar County High School and attended Gordon College. Taylor was a member of Rock Springs Church.
Survivors include parents, Timothy and Joanne Davis; brothers, Thomas Davis, Joseph Davis; grandparents, Lu Ann Bowie, Luther and Margaret Davis; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Taylor will be on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 3:00pm at Rock Springs Church, 219 Rock Springs RD., Milner, GA. 30257. Dr. Benny Tate and Reverend Ryan Christopher will officiate. Interment will be in Rock Springs Cemetery. The Spalding County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers
