Two storms, possibly tornadoes, roared through Lamar County Sunday evening - one east of Barnesville and one west.
Bobby Ferris of Southern Rivers Energy reports the co-op is aware of damage. "We don't know how bad it is. Our computer system is down and the IT team is working on it." UPDATE: The SRE system was back up at 6:41 p.m. At that time there were about 1,700 co-op members without power. Outages can be viewed at the southernriversenergy.com storm center link.
Multiple trees and power lines were down along the following roads: Sanders, Morgan Dairy, Rock Springs, Walton, Johnstonville, High Falls Park, Chappell Mill and Parker Branch. Power is out in multiple areas.
A pole barn was destroyed at the county barn near the Barnesville-Lamar County Industrial Park. Lamar public works superintendent James Rigdon said it appeared the storm went in the back door and out the front door, damaging both roll-up doors. County commission Jay Matthews said his initial assessment is the county barn is a total loss.
Sheriff Brad White said as of 5:50 p.m. no injuries had been reported.
