Donor comes forth to help firefighter who was robbed

An anonymous donor has stepped up to make whole a firefighter who was robbed while fighting a fire on Atlanta Street Jan. 14.

The donor read in The Herald Gazette of the firefighter’s tennis shoes and iPhone being stolen as he battled the blaze and will replace the value of the lost items in cash. Fire chief Steve Andrews and The Herald Gazette are working together on this effort.

Missing Cobb Co. woman grew up in B'ville; suspect arrested, car found

A woman, missing along with her husband after they left their Cobb County home with cash to buy a car they saw on Craigslist, grew up in Barnesville.

Warrants have been issued for a suspect - presumably the man who ran the ad to start with.

UPDATE: The suspect in the case is now in custody.

Truck overturns, driver injured; traffic snarled

A log truck overturned and spilled its load Tuesday morning on Industrial Drive.

The driver was taken to an area hospital with a laceration to the head but is expected to recover.

Truck traffic is backed up in the area as the logs still block the road. Avoid this area if possible.

Former Lamar County sheriff Larry Waller, who has battled health issues for some time, is in the critical care unit at Emory in Atlanta.

Larry Waller followed in the footsteps of his father J.C. Waller, who was a longtime sheriff as well.

UPDATE: Waller has been sent home with hospice care.
