Peggy O'Dell
Mrs. Peggy Tyus O’Dell, age 92, a native of Barnesville, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015, at her home.
Mrs. O’Dell was born September 24, 1922, daughter of the late Lewis Calhoun and Dora Howard Tyus. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in The Rock. After graduating from Brenau College, Peggy went to Atlanta to work for the Red Cross during World War II. A friend at the Red Cross set her up on a blind date with a marine who was in Atlanta for training, Bill O’Dell.
During college, Peggy was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She remained an active alumnus and held many positions over the years working with the college chapters around Georgia. Peggy was also a proud member of the DAR, the Azalea Garden Club and Bridge Clubs in Barnesville. Although she had slowed down, she played bridge throughout 2014.
Survivors include a son, John Tyus O’Dell and his wife, Terry, of Waldo, Wisconsin; daughter, Lisa O’Dell Newton of Conyers; and four grandchildren, Robert Baxter and his wife, Nadine, of Marietta, Loraine O’Dell, Megan O’Dell and Amy O’Dell, all of Waldo, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill O’Dell and daughter, Margaret O’Dell Baxter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association, Inc., 109 Forsyth Street Barnesville, GA 30204.

Lee Otis Butler, Jr.
On July 31, 2015, while at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Lee Otis Butler Jr., 76, of Sparta, made his final journey to be with the Lord.
He was born June 7, 1939, in Lamar County, Barnesville, Georgia, the son of Lee Otis Butler Sr. and Gladys Keadle Butler.
Mr. Butler served his country in U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force and was a Master Mason. He attended Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia (Patty) Butler of Sparta; children, Darlene Nealey-Hickman and husband Jeff, Brent Nealey and wife April, Robbin Butler-Glass, Rae Butler-Herndon and husband Richard, Lee O. (Trey) Butler, III and wife Jacquelyn; siblings, Ann Butler Harden and husband Jack; and grandchildren, Michael Nealey, Kyle Brown, Eric Glass, Cori Brown Strickland, Alicia Nealey, Brittany Herndon, Matthew Levi Herndon, Trevor Evans, Gracie Butler, Emma Cooper and Beckett Butler.
Memorial services will be in Barnesville, Georgia.
Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
