The Lamar Lady Trojans won both their matches last week, including a big non-region win over previously undefeated Peach County at Trojan Field March 22.
“It was a great game between two evenly matched teams. Peach entered the game with a record of 9-0-1, including wins over strong teams like Mount De Sales. They had only given up three goals all season so we knew the game would be close and it would come down to a handful of key plays,” LC coach Wayne Calvert said.

A boundary pond with its adjacent marshy area behind Plantation Creek and Milner Creek developments in Milner is enlarging, thanks to some eight or 10 beaver dams on feeder streams and creeks. The city council last week heard a report from administrator Harold Wilson that several houses along Moore Street have had water rising onto their properties as a result of backup from the numerous beaver dams.

Lamar County High School students will see first hand the possible effects of drinking and driving during a simulated wreck with a real-time emergency response. The demonstration is being held right before the April 2 prom and will take place in the field across from the high school.

Mr. Jesse Olin Faulkner, age 81, of Barnesville, passed away March 26, 2016, at his home. He was born in Griffin, son of the late John Faulkner and Martha Johnson Faulkner. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed going to church and was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Barnesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Johnny Faulkner, David Faulkner, Mary Berry and Sara McBride.

Mrs. Della Mae Williams, age 80, of Barnesville, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at her home. Mrs. Williams was born July 26, 1935 in Madison, daughter of the late Henry and Sally Mae Simmons Shelton. She worked at Rich’s Department Store, Davidson’s, J.C. Penny and Family Dollar. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
