Robert Kendrick "Ken" Grant
Robert Kendrick (Ken) Grant loving husband, daddy, granddaddy and great granddaddy, uncle, brother and father in law passed away surrounded by his family Sunday evening April 28, 2019 at the age of 79. Ken was born in Griffin, Georgia to the late Florrie Eugenia Swint Grant and Joseph Floyd Grant, January 30, 1940. Soon thereafter his family moved to Milner where he lived the remainder of his life. He loved his wife and two daughters very much as well as his sons in law and then grandchildren as they began coming along!
He was known for his love of fishing, hunting, bird dogs, growing a garden which always included some Silver Queen corn, telling a joke or playing a joke and the Georgia Bulldogs! Ken graduated from Gordon Military College and the University of Georgia. There wasn’t a Saturday during football season that we didn’t have the Dawgs blasting on TV or on the radio with Larry Munson calling the play by play when there was a dove shoot to be taken care of on the same day! He was always known for some of his classic sayings including; “Aint it great to be a Georgia Bulldog”, “Caledonia”, “Alrightnhiya”, “Have Mercy” and “Two Times”.
Ken worked for Life of Georgia for 35 years and was proud of that. He was always there to help at Swint’s to make candy and was the one who invented the famous Sweet Dreams. After retiring from Life of Georgia he became the 3rd generation owner of Swint’s Pecan Candies for many years until his health began to fail which no longer allowed him to continue the work ethic he had ALWAYS exuded. He was one of the most selfless and giving people on God’s green earth. He didn’t hesitate to do anything for anyone without ever once expecting anything in return. If you didn’t happen to come by the house to be fed he would surely share with anyone in the neighborhood he thought may need to be fed! He was always cooking for his family, friends and community. He was always known for his barbequed chicken and gummy rice, homemade bbq sauce and was also known for his fish frys and his homemade hushpuppies.
Ken was an asset to the community of Milner for many years and will be sorely missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his mama and daddy Florrie Eugenia Swint Grant and Joseph Floyd Grant, Jr., brother Swint Grant and special Uncle William K. (Ink) Swint.
He is survived by his loving bride of 55 years Beverly Napier Grant, daughter and son in law, Natalie Grant Nicholson and Rick Nicholson and daughter and son in law, Valerie Grant Perkins and Brett Perkins; granddaughter, Brittany Lane Prince and Garrett Prince; grandsons, Cody Kendrick Nicholson and Trenton Joe Nicholson; granddaughter, Keri Napier Perkins and newest great-granddaughter, Alaya Monroe Prince; sister, Frances Cato; nieces, nephews and a multitude of other family and great friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at Conner-Westbury in Griffin, Georgia. The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 12 at Milner Baptist Church in Milner, Georgia. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Milner Baptist Church in memory and honor of Ken.
