Do new, Georgia billboards link abortion to race?

According to an article by Errin Haines printed yesterday "the message on dozens of billboards across the city is provocative: Black children are an 'endangered species.'"

As the image depicts, the eyebrow-raising ads feature a young black child being displayed as an effort by the anti-abortion movement to use race to rally support within the black community. The reaction from black leaders has been mixed, but the "Too Many Aborted" campaign, which so far is unique to only Georgia, is drawing support from other anti-abortion groups across the country.

Whoever created the billboard apparently hasn't been to any public schools in Georgia...or they would know that black children are not an endangered species.

The billboard IS specifically aimed at the African American community.
And for those who want to pontificate about abortion, allow me to say these 2 words: Birth Control.
Most health departments will provide birth control for free so there seems to be little reason for abortions except perhaps in the case of rape, incest, or ignorance.
Sometimes only bluntness will bring attention to a message.

I feel that this is a racist billboard because aborted children are of many races. Whomever designed this ad campaign appears to be a racist, and unless the said person comes out with a billboard for aborted children who are white, Chinese, Mexican etc. then I say they are turning a sensitive issue into an even more sensitive issue.

Their message does nothing to help the pro-life movement; it is just another tactic that makes pro-lifers appear to be nut cases. So many ignorant people do not know how to give a clear and coherent message, which makes all pro-lifers appear to be fanatics.

I guess since the media only runs stories (usually) about the zaniest of the bunch, the general population doesn't even get a clear grasp about what the movement really is all about.

Of course they have their freedom of speech, but I laugh at their ignorance because they think they can make a difference by creating division. Creating a division is NEVER the proper way to rally for a cause.

Call it what you want...Abortion is murder. Abortion in a hospital or clinic is murder while wearing a gown with a slit down the back.

This is just another case where someone adds 1+1 and comes up with 3. The web site says 58% of abortions are of black babies where as in Georgia only 30% of the population is black. 28% of the abortions are white where as 58.1% of the population in Georgia is white. There is a disproportion of black abortions (more) to population and just the opposite (less proportion) for whites. What the website does not tell you is that 80% of the total black population is unmarried compared to over 50% for the white population. What it doesn’t tell you is the percent of the black vs. white population that live below the poverty line. What it doesn’t tell you is the percentage of a race vs. population that is more likely to use birth control.
No matter what side of this issue you are on, this information is skewed to provoke a reaction among the black population. If you really what to talk about genocide among the black population you should be talking about the disproportional murder, assault and incarceration rate among black males. Then again the driving force behind this problem is a particular culture and widespread poverty among the black community.

I totally agree with the billboard. I am totally against abortion unless the girl was raped!!! If she layed down to get pregnant then she should handle the consequences. I do however think that whoever made this billboard shouldn't have targeted one race. There are many white women and other races that abort children.

I totally disagree with the top message on the billboard. Just a simple drive through town, or over to Wal mart will show you otherwise.

The billboard is an equal opportunity employer. Some picture had to be on the thing. Maybe they should have used blue Avatar people. Nope! Then we would have aliens gripping. Seems like people are going to find fault with anything.

The billboard is not equal opportunity. It specifically says "BLACK children are an endangered species". If it would have left the black part out you would have a very good argument.

I didn't see that part. Guess I'm getting old. Has anyone been to that site advertised on the sign? (toomanyaborted.com) It specifically states this on its home page:

"Abortion is a human tragedy no matter the race, but nowhere in America is it more prevalent than in the Black community, where nearly 40% of all pregnancies end in induced abortion."

"Since 1973 more than fourteen million black babies have died by abortion around the nation. The ‘ENDANGERED SPECIES’ message has been the theme of Operation Outrage and its ongoing efforts to educate Georgians about the holocaustic impact abortion has had on the Black community."

"The Radiance Foundation and Operation Outrage are exposing the abortion industry’s destruction of the African-American Community."

I don't think the sign was meant to be racist. It was meant to attract attention. I think it accomplished that. At least to all the Barnesville natives that jump on a subject before they look for the root of the subject.

I dont know what is worse...aborted children or starving children born to mothers who cannot care for them or dont want to (only to become part of the system).
Abstinence only education DOES NOT WORK. Give out free birth control and make it more accessible.
As far as the endangered species argument..what a load of crap. We do not need more children on food stamps and medicaid. That goes for white and black children.
