If dedication to truth is the promise of morality, then there is no greater form of dedication than the responsibility of thinking, and accepting no authority over your own brain. It seems there are so many people who identify themselves with race or political ideology that they lack the ability to think as an individual.

"Thinking" is precisely the problem. Thinking does NOT imply wisdom (ask the people who brought us the atomic bomb). Too many people think they are smarter than what they actually are...including the author of this extremely biased article.

Think with your brain, is that so hard to do?
In the 1800's, people did the most work than
you ever could imagine. If the welfare people of today had to do a 1/3 of it, they would die from sore muscles that have never been used.
I am tired of paying for welfare checks for
lazy people that use the system like their
parents have, and their grandparents did.
Let's get back to- if you are hungry- you grow
it or kill it. No more free money!

I hate to burst the entitlement-hating bubble but some people have an extremely skewed view of what an "entitlement" receiver looks like..you would be surprised to know that the MAJORITY of people receiving assistance are working class people who are not paid a living wage. Ask anyone who works in the system. Yes there are people who abuse the system but the majority of recipients are people who work at walmart, ingles, freds, mcdonalds etc...these are all tax paying citizens.
Old timer...sounds like you are receiving socialized medicare due to your age..how would you survive without it? Do you think your employer would continue to pay your insurance premiums after your retirement? Most people are not that lucky and would not be able to afford it at that age.
Think people.

Mr Smith sure does a lot of accuseing not to be accusing any party. I wonder if he actually does any thinking for himself, his opinons have been puked up repeatedly by the right wing to stir up that hate and fear thing. Don't quit your day job.

We need more politicians such State Rep. Randy Terrill, a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representative or Steve Poizner, as a potential Governor of California who promises to fight back against supporting illegal alien families. Dump out of office every politician, Governor, Mayor, Judge or other elected official, beginning with majority leader Sen.Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Speaker,Nancy Pelosi who favors the illegal immigration occupation of this nation
Whatever the outcome of the discussions between Sen. Chuck Schumer, Lindsey Graham of any other partisanship play on the illegal immigration explosion. No matter if our politicians kill E-Verify, 287 (g) federal agreement with local police, slowing down on ICE raids or anything. Whatever law they try to enact, the American people will not tolerate any kind of AMNESTY. Disguise it as they may, no Comprehensive Immigration Reform will ever pass. Illegal aliens will remain "Illegal" and stay that way, as patriotic citizens, sovereignty lovers will--NEVER--allow this abomination to pass. Republican, Democrat, it makes no difference. As a people we no longer believe that the individual is solely responsible for himself and is entitled to the results of his labors. Wealth redistribution is the norm, from entitlement programs to foreign aid, and all have the same objective, to gain and retain power. And they hide their motives by continually "blaming" others for the idiocy that comes out of Washington and many State capitals.

Again, it simply doesn't matter which of the two parties you are addressing. BOTH of them have as their primary objective to gain and retain power and BOTH use our tax dollars to "buy" votes.

The original post correctly states that in the case of entitlement programs it is the Democratic party which leads the way. Alternatively when "tax cuts" are promised, when "investment tax credits" are proposed, when "capital gains" taxes are reduced, well, it's the Republicans who are attempting to buy the votes of the business owners and executives.

BOTH are corrupt and NEITHER cares one whit about your rights, especially your right to pursue happiness by retaining the fruits of your labors.

When the stimulus pkg was used for buying votes and not jobs, when the president defies the american people and flies all over the country showing his support for democtatic senators for thier upcoming elections. What do you people call it. I call it BS, this guy is not doing a thing for this country. He has turned it into a flying circus. He laughs at us every night he has his parties at the white house and is having imported food flown in, while americans are starving. He flies all over the world trying to set us up with the united nations, cutting closed door deals with other countries, selling us out. I don't give a dam who you vote for but If you can't see what's happening right now then you aren't paying attention! You better come outside your'e little glass house and take a look around.

What bothers me is the way liberals try to force their way of life on me. If a liberal is a vegetarian they try to outlaw meat for everyone. Conservatives give you the option of abstaining. If a conservative doesn't care for firearms, they don't buy them. Liberals want to outlaw all guns for everyone. If a conservative wants better health care, they get a job that provides it. A liberal simply demands that everyone else pay for his medical expenses. I'm tired of paying everyone else's way. Throw out the illegals, throw out the criminals, throw out everyone who refuses to work.

I wish this paper would for the first time come up with something original or even genuine. This right wing fear baiting BS is really getting old. Our economy has changed for good and will never return to as it once was. Employers have and will continue to reduce health care benefits. Even the companies who continue to do so have each year passed more cost on to the employee. We wouldn’t have the need for health care reform if providers were not gouging the American people in the first place.
As usually when someone broadcasts to the world, “They have the truth” they end up not even having a clue.

so the answer is even more bloated government involvement? History shows us that whatever the government takes over or tries to run fails miserably. A prime example of this is the USPS vs FED-EX or UPS.

lol..it was a joke. take a good look around. corporations have been fighting for less oversight and accountability for years by promoting the idea of less government.

We need better government..people we elect are supposed to represent the voters wants and needs, not corporations. In a democracy, the government IS the people. It is time we take our government back. It makes me laugh when people scream "less government"..when they are essentially saying, WE want less say in what goes on in America..give all the power to the corporations instead. LMFAO.

10 REMINDERS FOR DEMOCRATS

1. Looking compassionate is not the same as being compassionate.
2. Crutches disable as often as they enable - use them briefly and wisely.
3. Giving power to government is not the same as giving power to people.
4. Most profit is virtuous. It is a reward for creating value, not taking it.
5. It's more important to create value than redistribute it.
6. You can't give away what you don't own.
7. Government is to advance justice and order. Business is to advance ingenuity and prosperity. Don't hire one to do the other's job.

What bothers me is conservatives try to force their way of life onto me. They want to force prayer into schools, force my kids to not have an accurate education and hear crap about creationism. They want to force women to not have an abortion, and then force the same women to raise the child without help. They want to force me to not do things on Sunday when I go to church on the Sabbath.

Isn’t it interesting how this writer fails to mention all the entitlements going to corporations and large land owners in this state. For example, I live in Lamar on a small piece of land (three acres) and pay $3000 dollars a year property tax. The guy that has the place next to me has 30 acres, house and a few scraggly cows and because he qualifies for a state tax credit program
he pays one forth of what I pay in property taxes.
Just think of the loss revenue and how much the average home owner has to pay extra because of the welfare received by the large landowners. This is welfare at its worst because it’s giving to the well off from those who have even less.
