Great to see GA lawmakers killed this tobacco tax hike! Lawmakers shouldn't be basing revenue off an overtaxed and very picked-on minority, not to mention the very major decline in tax revenue Florida has seen, since their state cigarette tax increased $1 last summer:
Just remember what the taxes are for. They are a very large part of the childrens health care, among other things, that are given to the masses of people that want things for free and not earn them. When all of you do-gooders get what you want, and do away with all tobacco products, something that people have used for pleasure for hundreds of years, I guess you have figured our who will fill the gap and be taxed more to make up for lost revenue, for you know this tax will never go away. I guess it is too much to expect for you to be following the news lately and notice that all the turmoil at the present is about taxes ( you dont think so? ) Read the new taxes coming soon to your doorstep in the Healthcare bill that this congress of liberal DEMS. have (ruled) against the will of the majority of opinion poles in every state of the Union. APPX. 65% say ( dont do this.) Who wants the I.R.S. to be the inforcer on their ins. This is what all of the freeby folks want. I do think you will be crying over a very bad mistake when you start paying for a service that you will not get for four years, but you will be making payments anyway. If you don't, the I.R.S. has employed a small army for the one purpose , to check on people who do not buy the type of ins. the Gov. tells you to buy, even if you do not want it. Fines of appx. 2500 dollars if you don't. Have any of you people wondered why members of congress will be avoiding the question, are you and yours going to be under the same law that you gave us against our will? For your information none has agreed to put their family or themselves under the same knife, because this will be a deep cut between your personal DR. and you. A board of burocrats will tell you if you can have the procedure that was recomended to you or what you can have., not what you and your DR. agree to. So, what happened to the famous saying, (ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY ). The best thing the Dems. can do for thie country today, is not to live on the sweat of others and take care of your own future and not depend on someone other than you. This quote by John F Kennedy was said to this Nation. What happened to that spirit? I think it has been changed over the years by doing a bad job of putting people in office that run on the platform of (PUT ME IN OFFICE AND YOU CAN GET SOMETHING FOR YOUR VOTE)( JUST PUT ME IN POWER AND IT WILL BE SORTED OUT LATER)(TRUST ME!!!!!!) Do research on what the person believes in,like the Constitution with the BILL OF RIGHTS. If you haven't read them it really would be worth your while.
What continues to fascinate me is the continued pressure placed on tobacco and virtually none placed on alcoholic beverages.
Pull of the road virtually anywhere and take note of the carpet of beer bottles in the ditch. Based on this fact alone, it is a wonder that driving on the road doesn't get you killed by a drunk immediately.
Despite this fact, there is no enthusiasm for increasing taxes and fees on this popular item. Why is that? Could it be the politicians enjoy partaking in alcoholic beverages so much they don't want to increase costs to themselves?
Oh well, just another one of those mysteries of life that aren't really that mysterious once you carefully consider all the facts.
GA tobacco tax is 5th lowest in the nation, I think we could stand an increase in this tax if it means the difference bewtween hospitals closing or not.
The Georgia legislators again show their true colors, big business before personal health. I can not think of one good thing that comes from smoking. I bet you anyone who really knew before hand the expense and toll on personal health smoking would cost them they would have never picked up the pack in the first place. You may say it creates jobs but society doesn’t need any more blood money. This is absolutely insane. Life is just too precious to play Russian roulette with tobacco products and eventually you will spin the cylinder and the cancer bullet will lock into the barrel of death. The tobacco industry has to constantly get new tobacco addicts to stay in business and it is your children who they will sucker into giving up their personal health just so they can stay out of the red on their spreadsheet. You may say it’s all personal choice. To really have a choice you must know beforehand what you are giving up and it’s the clever marketing schemes glamorize the poison you suck into your lungs. When are we going to evolve to the point that we have the wisdom and sense of humanity that we say no more cost in lives to the tobacco industry? You can not take anymore lives just to insure your own profitability. If capitalism is to survive it must first find a conscience but there are those hardcore profiteers with no sense of humanity who continue to give it a bad name. Our legislators have let us down once again. They know no shame.
