Barnesville native Jeannie Ayer Haddock, 37, is expected to start work as early as Thursday as Lamar County's chief appraiser. She comes home to Barnesville from neighboring Pike County where she held the same position.

It's not a joke. There were rumors long before Linda Mayo was fired they wanted Jeanie Haddock brought in. if you look closely at her record in Pike including trips where she billed Pike county for expenses while not actually attending a seminar. she also forced some people to hire lawyers and the county had to pay back the legal fees.
What's with the editing out of any legitimate negative comments about Haddock? She made a few real messes out in Pike where people had to get laywers, and Pike wound up paying for the legal expenses. Seach the web and you will see.
Someone once defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The actions of the Lamar County Board of Assessors in hiring Jeannie Haddock as Chief Appraiser for Lamar County certainly fit the definition.
Why in the world would the Board of Assessors want to recycle questionable performance rather than hire a professional with no ties to Lamar County?
Ms Haddock efforts in Pike County are truly suspect. One only needs to retrace many of the problems she had in Pike County with various property owners and the Pike County Board of Assessors. Again, why hire someone with all the baggage she brings to the job?
Is it because she and certain officials go to the same church, another good-ole-boy (girl) hire??? Not sure, but a possibility!
One reason might be that John Hamrick, newly elected Chairman, was the primary impetuous to hire Ms Haddock!! Like many egoists, Mr. Hamrick, believe they can will success with their mere presence.
Another plausible explanation may be that the Board of Assessors prefers a known quantity which allows them to continue their exercise of “benign neglect” when fulfilling over-site and accountability responsibilities.
Regardless of reasoning, the hire does not pass the smell test. With this hire the property owners in Lamar County are the losers
Another truism, if you aren’t moving forward, you are losing ground. With this hire Lamar County is losing ground!!
I followed someone's advice from above and looked up her record on my own (instead of taking very apparent biased opinions.) I read throug the entire minutes of the 2008-2009 Pike County Tax Assessors Board meetings. I didn't see or read anything that showed contempt of her job but actually quite the opposite. I did read where one priavte citizen commended Mrs Haddock for her effort. She appears to have very strong understanding of the laws and how they relate to property tax evaluations. I know some anonymous people like degrading people on the blog for no good reason, and some people use a smell test when making business decisions, but on paper, she appears to know what she is doing.
Ms. Haddock is a very good person, she will do alot of good for lamar county! Just like everyone blames Bush for messing up America, she alone didnt do everything, she has people she has to look up to also. If anything she will do alot of good for Lamar County!!!
You go Jeannie. So proud of you. Too bad you have to deal with some of the same people in Lamar as you did in Pike. They like to live in two counties that way they have a choice of schools. Go figure!
Jeannie will make a deal with her friends, local politicans, developers and anyone she can can play innocent before that will benefit her. She has a problem with who the law refers to. Ask her about an Lamar ex-assessor that had an illegal CUVA in Lamar, and resigned from the Pike Board of Assessors due to heat. He got caught when he sold it in Lamar. Pike County just sent Lamar County an education in favoritism, taxation and some of their problem to you, Enjoy. Only thing Lamar has to cover all this indescretion is they have a tax base with Gordon College, Pike didn't.

I want to know one thing, how can someone work somewhere for 8 years and never was wrote up for anything and there still be the hype. I think this hype is just someone who has a grudge against Jeannie. REMEMBER SHE QUIT AND WAS NOT FIRED. Facts are in writing, rumors are not
You know, when you all knew there was a vacancy in the tax assessors office, how many of you suggested anyone for the position? How many of you called any of the commissioners or the board members and gave your input when you, "allegedly heard they were bringing this lady here". I am so sick and tired of people on this blog who sit and do nothing but complain, no suggestions and I'll bet you 99.5% of you have never even attended a commission meeting. Now, I can't wait until the first idiot posts, it doesn't do any good, they won't listen to us! But wait, if you do that, you won't have anything to BI^%$ about on this blog. Get a life - will you! I think some of you are afraid some things are going to be revealed that may have YOUR name on it!
#9.1.... Im 19 and probably no more about political standpoints tha you! Jeannie is a very hard worker and an honest person. The messes in pike county were already made when she took control. You and everyone else that thinks she shouldnt be here can MOVE! Because the bottom line is its happening whether you like it or not!!!
I'm optimistic she has the knowledge of the county, the training necessary for the job and the courage to stand up to all you anons, or is it alcohol-nons.
The ones that doesnt want Jeannie here are probably the same Idiots that wanted Joe Buice back in office, and the same Super Idiots that Voted Obama into office. You dont care about what happens to the community you just want someone you know or...( cant say the other one about our idot president)... So keep your responces to yourself!!!
WHY NOT SOLVE THIS ALL AND ABOLISH PROPERTY TAXES. HAVE A STATE WIDE SALES TAX . THIS WAY EVERYONE WOULD HAVE TO PAY. ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SAY THE SCHOOLS NEED MORE MONEY WOULD CHANGE THEIR TUNE WHEN IT COMES OUT OF THEIR POCKET TOO. ALSO GET READY BECAUSE OUR FREINDLY SCHOOL BOARD IS ABOUT TO RAISE THE MILLAGE RATE. WE NEED TO VOTE EVERYONE OUT THAT VOTES FOR IT.
Because that would make sales tax about 35% or higher, and would kill Georgia businesses. I already buy shippable items from out of state to avoid taxes. Almost everyone would shop out of state if Georgia did something that dumb.
It also would shift an unfair portion to the lower to middle and upper middle income, and give the wealthiest a huge tax break.
Only an absolute fool or a very wealthy person would like to see a sales tax.

FAIR TAX SUPPORTER

Actually #17 is right, many states have no proprty tax or income tax. This is the way to go as it taxes everyone equally. Why is it fair for a couple with no children to have pay "school taxes"? Why is it fair that the people who live in the city have to pay city and county taxes? Why is it fair that renters do not have to pay any taxes? Why is it fair that illelegal immigrants pay no income taxes? Everyone has to purchase groceries, gas, and personal items, thus sales tax would be paid by all not just the low, middle, or upper class. I am curious as to why anyone would not support a Fair Tax?
Also...the problems that Jeannie had to deal with in Pike County; she inherited from the "good ole boy network" that was in place before she was hired!
Another poker buddy is now sitting in on an old game. They pulled it off. This is where the fun begins. The new poker buddy is now going to do a little song and dance for us. It's called: "Let's drop the value on certain poker buddy's properties."
Search the web, you can find out a lot.
