The tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski and Poland's political and military elite among the trees of the Katyn Forest is surreal, given that in those same woods, thousands of Polish prisoners of war were murdered by Joseph Stalin's secret police.

Certainly Putin is capable of engineering this kind of event. Let's not forget that he is a former senior KGB official. The Russians certainly possess the technology necessary to spoof the Polish plane's electronics--remember, the pilot would not have been able to see, and he would have had to trust his instruments.

And, of course, if our government had proof, it would most likely remain highly classified.

As soon as I heard the news, I remember exactly what McCain said during one of the presidential townhall debates with Obama..."I have looked in the eyes of Putin and all I saw was K-G-B." My eyebrow raised even more when I read in the AJC this morning Putin stepped in and took control of the crash investigation.
