The latest from the folks at the Muslim American Society:

Muslim American Society Freedom's Thurgood Marshal Immigrant Justice Project condemns the signing of Arizona Senate State Bill 1070 into law by Governor Jan Brewer. The measure allows law enforcement agencies to detain anybody "if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants," and requires legal immigrants to carry paperwork proving their status at all times.

All they need to carry is a Green card...it's about the size of a driver's license. I think this law is great. My wife went through the proper procedures for her to become legal (thousands of dollars and many years). It makes us sick to see people living here illegally.

If they're not breaking the law ,they have nothing to worry about. I'm glad to see Arizonia taking a stand. We can't continue to give away our country,as Obama will do, to every carpetbagger,golddigger and criminal that crosses the border.If profiling is what is needed ,then that's what needs to be done.

Most comments on here are nonsense and uneducated. It is sad. I am a born American citizen, my maternal grandparents were immigrants. How can you pass a law that is so one sided? Do you think it is right to pull over any brown skinned, brown haired individual and ask for their green card? I don't own a green card, I was born here. It would be an insult and discrimination if I were requested to present id and my blonde headed neighbor illegally here from Brazil keep living the high life. The government needs to work a reform, hold undocumented immigrants to the laws not single out an entire race.

I saw this coming a mile away.
Why is it racist to enpower the police to question someone they believe could be commiting a crime! Illegal immigrants are illegal remember. That is a crime. If the police suspect me of drinking and driving they will first ask for my drivers license and insurance, then they will instruct me to do a number of test to determine if I am under the influence.
This is the major problem with the U.S.A. They are so worried about other peoples feeling and scared that suits will be filed, they are letting all these little things get swept under the rug, then it turns into a huge major issue that cannot be take back under control. Who cares if the muslims, mexians, jamaicans, brittish, chinese, etc dont like it. Dont come if you dont like the way things are being handled. We have a problem in America and illegal immigrants are a big part of it. If you want to be over here, come through the front door.

Crime is not comitted only by illegal immgrants,even crime linked to illegal immigration is fueled by citizens.The drug business thrives because there is a huge market in the states.That market also constitutes citizens who are very thirsty for dope and crack.

What would happen if the authorities checked every person in a given area red, green, blue, white, brown, black and every shade. Would that bEe racial profiling. Let the authorities pick the area by a lottery system and then CHECK EVERYONE.

How? Remove the "religious" people and you will loose most of your volunteers in the communities... Remove religion and morals will decline, remove religion and watch the communities stumble. Here's a thought though... remove all your thoughts about what YOU know about religion and start looking into what it truly means to be religious

You do not need religion to be moral or have a moral system. Religion could be considered the cause of most of the immorality in the world. Brother vs brother, Christianity vs Islam. Wars, murder all justified by both sides as the work of God. God has nothing to do with it. You can be spiritual and moral and not be religious. And you can be religious and not moral.

I think your last statement is wrong. If I'm religious then my religion will tell me how to live. Which translates into morales and values?
I think the biggest problem in America is that people(Politicians in Washington) are trying to force religion underground.

I am all for illegal immigrants being shipped home. The question remains, though, as to how to identify those people. For example, if I'm an American citizen of Mexican descent (i.e. my parents were citizens and I was born here)and I'm pulled over by the police who then ask me to prove my citizenship. How would I do it? How would you do it? Most people don't carry passports on their person 24/7. If I'm a citizen, then I don't have a visa or a green card to whip out. Many states issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants (Georgia does) and they can even get SS#'s from what I've seen. So, that rules those items out as means of identification. What are we working towards here? Perhaps a national identification card for citizens? A way to id people who belong must first be worked out before the law can be implemented or we risk citizens being yanked off the streets.

Simple: Fedral Law should be that everyone 16 and up should have ID. DL. or Greencard. Pulled over show one. USA Citizens have to show ID or DL when requested. What's difference? Same law for all.

I think you missed the part where illegals ARE granted driver's licenses in many states. I'm a citizen, I don't have a green card. Other than carrying a copy of my birth certificate around, or my passport, how do I prove I'm a citizen if asked? Aliens here legally will be able to show documentation. So far, they're the only ones who will be able to prove belonging here if asked on the spot.

Could you kindly cite a source for your claim that "USA Citizens have to show ID or DL when requested"? As far as my research has led me to believe, there is no current laws to that effect. As a matter of fact, the very nature of such a law would be deemed unconstitutional by any competent court of law.

I think anyone who is not a Native American should have to carry their birth certificate or green card whereever they go and present it to the police whenever they ask for it.
This is America!! We dont need freedom if it allows illegals to live here. Send all 20 million of them home..we dont need their money to stimulate the economy.

We dont get their money. They dont pay taxes. They send their kids to school our tax dollars pay for. Our tax dollars pay for them to go to the hospital, drive on public roads and benefit from all the things our tax dollars pay for. They dont pay they take. And its not about racism, there is plenty of black and white people here that wont even work spending tax dollars through welfare. THE PERSON THAT SAYS anything about this situation being racists is one because thats how they think.

The first time this goes in front of the supreme court it will be thrown out as a violation of the Fourth Amendment. All a law like this serves to do is turn us into a military state. But then again that is what the right wants

Now I been noin Mr.Mac for long time an his insurance business is what he hard workin cause if it heads or tails he goin come out on top like alstate always does. Take that man on tv for Mr.Macs commercials sayin to you,, you think he illegal or some kind muslim? He say nice things about Mr.Mac and then he gettin all pop and shout from those little people? When stopped by law enforcement you must be able to identify yourself. You are not required to carry papers but be able to provide your name, address and SSN. If you are not from the US you must always be able to provide an ID and passport number. The officer must be able to validate your ID to insure there are no outstanding warrents. Nothing has change but to requires law enforcement agencies to enforce the immigration laws.

For anyone that has not lived in another country, it is much tighter on knowing who you are, not like here.We have one of the most laxed enforcement on letting illegals stay here, and send millions out of our economy, and right now I think everyone will agree , we don't need to have this . I understand the amount is large enough to choke a elephant. If we do not get a handle on who comes and who is here, we leave our security in a poor state. Then we will be at the mercy of who our elected officals turned a blind eye to and did nothing to stop the influx for years, both sides. For our Republic to survive we must do immigration by the laws on the books at this very moment. We do not need another limp law. I understand the people that came here legal, are on the side of closeing the borders.Most of them know what is showing up in the states, and want to practice their traditions ,and not follow our laws. That is the largest downfall of all. When I go to another country, I have yet to see press 2 for Spanish.

The word Racial Profiling comes into play, yet this is not, in my opinion a Racial Issue. You can tell when that word comes up the liberal lawyers have gotten into the game. They can charge the Taxpayers for representing these persons, and make money. That is why I didnt capitalize lawyers, they can be the epitome of bottom feeders.

What does the Arizona Law have to do with Race? It says as I understand it if you leave the impression you are illegal, then you are check to see if you are. Why does every law that is written, some organization screams Racism. I think Racism is the only word they know to get attention with. Why not deal with the facts, and if the law is not on a level playing field for citizens, then amend it.

Here's an answer to it all. If you're not an Indian then you're all illegal aliens and should leave the country. That means if you ain't red - go home. The whites took everything from the Indians and is doing everything possible to give it to the blacks and now the hispanics.

Read the bill people. They must stop you first for breaking the law. Once you cant provide proper id then they have the right to ask. Its nothing new. If your pulled over driving then all you need is a drivers license. Wow thats so bad. People are ridiculous. Read before spewing garbage out your mouth.
