The Augusta Chronicle
It's almost a reflex for Americans to say, "Immigration is what made America great."
That's like saying "food does a body good." Well, yes, but not all kinds. And not in any amount. We just had a 20-something Augustan die recently from complications of obesity, after all.
I suppose big government is ok after all, right repubs?
Last I checked, we still have our guns...and because of opposition to gun control, criminals do to.
Hypocrisy at its finest.
We need to make legal immigration a workable solution, and we would also be well served to help resolve the problems that lead to people needing to come to this country in the first place if we really want change. A border fence is a band aid, not a solution, and a costly one. I'd much rather see that money used to towards job creation or other initiatives in other countries so that people can stay home than a fence that doesn't really deter anyone and is just a political statement.
There are many US citizens clogging up our jails that I would love to deport to some remote island somewhere and give their citizenship to some of the hardworking immigrants who want to be contributing members of our society. There is good and bad with immigration, but we could much improve the situation by making smart decisions and changes to current immigration policy.
I feel an employer who is willing to hire illegals, knowingly, should lose all government contracts, and write offs for employees. Perhaps they will take another look at what is happening in this country, that they are doing for a buck.
The law says not going through proper steps to become a citizen is not the way we do things. Remember--- They are here on our soil illegally. They have no rights here. Just as if you were in Mexico illegally and you get caught, you go to jail for a two year sentence.Look it up, it's there. They should be made to go through the process if they want to stay. The citizens that went through the process do not want them here without the process because they understand the caliber of the criminals that are flooding our country.
The law in Arizona would not be necessary if the Federal GOV. did not fall down on the job.
The new law does not give the law enforcement any more power than a border patrol officer. For those of you that have not read the law there must be a infraction before any stop can be made. That does not in any way affect the 4th amendment.#2 you are right to say the 4th and the 2nd amendments are very important, the only thing you do not understand is if you are illegal it does not affect them to begin with. These people are breaking our countries rules.
We do need immigrants in this country, but they must be legal, not illegal. There is just a slight difference, or cant you understand that?
Arizona is just doing what the feds won't- trying to enforce a law on the books.
I suspect you have to live in a border state and deal with the issues the porous border brings to your state in order to fully appreciate the costs of illegal immigration.
Glad to here from you again. I would like to tell you what I meant on our exchange when it came to health care and you were not going to worry about it anymore.I hope in my heart you never give up on your opinions. You and I are at the point in life where it starts taking things away instead of giving.Heard that in a movie and always wanted to use it.We cant stop progress, but we can guide it.I know you do not want to give up the relations and confidence you have in your Dr. but if you give up as you said, we will be dictated to by a bureaucrat in Washington on what and who will tend to us if we need fixing.Stay informed, and under no circumstances, stop saying your piece.
