The American Cancer Society Relay for Life kicks off Friday with a full entertainment schedule and a recordbreaking 23 Lamar County teams - and a record-breaking number of members - working to raise the goal of $72,000 for cancer research and treatment.
Relay will run from 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, when opening ceremonies begin and will end at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 8.

Volunteers (l-r) Ruth Hice, Kim Wall, Kelly Hughes and Gail Rooks paint the town purple with ribbons and posters in the run-up to Relay for Life last week.

Kelly & Kim have done another great job this year. Pulling together an event like Relay for Life takes an inordinate amount of time and effort. The entire committee is to be commended. This event raises a lot of money for cancer research and help for local cancer patients. Well done, everyone!
